And the origination has nothing to do with male animal anatomy.
In the days of sailing ships, a device called a "monkey" was used to hold cannon balls stacked in a pyramid. It was made out of brass to prevent rust, but when it got cold the brass contracted at a different rate than the steel balls, and if the brass "monkey" contracted enough the balls would fall out of the pyramid, hence the expression.

Last I knew you were in Texas!! Are you sayin' I might as well just stay in michigan then ?? Guess they got more snow in NC than we got here. We don't have hurricanes , earthquakes , mud slides , floods , alligators and sharks and rays on our beaches , we grow ALL our own food , build all our own cars , have our own oil and nat gas wells , our own iron and copper mines and ALL the fresh water any one could ever need. I guess I'll stay here and stick it out. what about no jobs , you say??? If you can't find a job or a profession in MI then you just plain don't want to work!!! Y'all have a nice day now. Randy.
