Water stove opions

I am planning to purchase a new water stove in the next few months. Does anyone have any experience with a Northland Outdoor stove? Anyone with a brand they prefer over others? It only needs to heat about 2000sq ft.

I've got a Shaver stove. It does great, none of that electronic stuff, just a fan and a thermostat. All available at a local hardware store. It also has a 3/8 or 1/2 steel fire box. The ones with a stainless fire box can be costly to repair if they crack. A couple of guys locally have a stainless box and don't like them for that reason. One had to be repaired, cost close to 1800.oo

I don't know where you live, but since you say you are a couple months away from purchase, be sure you buy one that conforms to the latest emission standards. Here in NY there is a real posibility that many stoves will be banned from use, by the NYDEC., People here spent lot of money on these heating systems, that heat great, but may be illegal to use in the future. That really sucks!
PS I heat with wood, but my indoor wood burner is equiped with a catalitic converter.

Check out every stove you can. I went with central boiler. It holds nearly 400 gallons of water. It works great. Neighbor has a woodmaster with only 100 gal. Has to load it several times a day. I only put some in morning and evening.

I have a central boiler and love it....mine is 15+ years old, dad bought it when i was a teenager livin at home... the weld cracked by the door on the firebox three years ago, so he bought another one, he gave me this one and when i dug into to it that is what i found, welded it back up, been using it for two years now and havent had to add water since...central boiler and heatmore are made just down the road from where i live one is 30 miles west and the other is 20 miles east. the heatmaster is made in redlake falls to the south of me, neghbor just put one of them in seems to be ok...but i prefer the central boiler...Bob

I'm lookin at getting a Heatmor. I used to feed a Central Boiler "classic" and I can see many improvements with the Heatmor. Sorry I don't know about the northland outdoor.

Ive kinda shyed away from the stainless ones. I'm in NC so the emissions garbage should not effect me. I have an old (30yrs) sun wood now. It holds 600gal. To me it is very inneficient as it has to be loaded 3-4 times a day. People tell me that the new stoves with the forced draft controled by thermostat that hold 150-150gal are much better than the old ones that hold alot of water, thats what I'd really like to know.

I have a Central Boiler. It was the best money I've ever spent. My labor to cut the wood is all I spend to heat my house and hot water. It's alot of work, but,it keeps me off the sofa all winter, and, out of the way of the boss.

I suggest you look into a "gasifire" unit as it is EPA aproved and very efficeint.I know "PORTAGE AND MAIN" is one company that has them, but they cost $10500 can. They claim to be 86% or better efficeint.

I have a Hardy 180.I heat my 2500 sq ft house and partially heat my 3500 Sq ft shop with the same stove. This is my 7th winter. It is all stainless steel except the grates. Heavy cast iron. I replaced the grates last year. That is the only problem I have had.I really like the quick start-up with the hardy. Dead cold to 180 deg. hot water in 30 minutes. Some of the others take 2 or 3 hours.I burn 25-30 pick-up loads of wood per winter. I'd buy another one tomarrow. They have been in business since 1976.

dad and a friend have a Hardy at his house and we have a big hardy in the store, I have a Earth, it is made 40 miles from home, mine is OK, but i like the Hardy's for the way you load the wood in, the hardy you drop the wood in, where mine i have to slide it in and stack it,

dad has his heating his shower water, unlimited hot water is nice, i was on i tight budget and couldn't have it heat the shower water,

we have one of our customers saw mill just deliver block and log ends from a big dump truck, delivered to the house, pieces run from 1"thick to 4feet long, all oak , no splitting, just have to half the long pieces, [/list]

I like my Hardy. It's had a continuous fire in it since October of 1998. Fill it twice a day in cold weather.
