Hydraulic Control Valve Failing

On my Farmall M with a Dual 250 loader I have figured out that the control valve is failing causing my bucket basically to float.

So hopefully the picture loaded and you guys can help me figure out a replacement.

This is on a Farmall M with the gear driven pump the extra valve on the left is for the three point I do not know if that has dual acting cylinders or not, so for now I will probably keep that separate. Thanks!

Are you sure it ain't a popped cylinder seal?
And did you check the control valve relief for stuck or broke spring?

I replaced the cylinder since that was what I was thinking and it looked like it had been worked on quite extensively.

When I put the new cylinder on and before I hooked it to the bucket I fired up the tractor. The ram immediately starts to go down and I have to fight it to make it go back up.

I have no know how if that control valve could be rebuilt or not, and it is January in northern MN with no shop.

Some of those valves screw apart inside and then you have no or poor control of them. You can usually notice they feel different if you are the one who operates them.

There is a adjustable relief poppet somewhere in the valve block.
it can look like a hex bolt head or a round head blind nut, some have a treaded rod under it other brands use shimms to adjust the relief pressure.
All of them have a spring and a ball or tapered valve or a hollow spool as poppet.

It aint no rocket science to take it apart to if the hangup is there, just count the revolutions of the treaded rod if it happens to have one when you take it out
The valve spools themselves seldom give a problem unless they are plain worn out but it dont happen overnight.

You can also have a bad cylinder from the get go(not the first time that happens)

I can't help you with the cold.

That valve should have a name on it Maybe Gresen or cross If the presure releif valve was bad The lift would not work either The releif valve is right beside the 1st lever . Tractor supply has a valve listed like yours for $279. Yours cold have a blowed O ring To see that you would have to pull the control valve out of Its bore hooked to 2nd lever some of those valves have a cover behind them held on by 4 screws under that cover is a spring held to the valves shaft with a snapring. If in an emergency to use the loader The 2 hoses hooked in the top of that valve could be switched with the 2 on your grapple valve but then your grapple won"t work.

There's NO "O" rings to blow INSIDE the valve, all sealing is don by the precision fit of the spool and barrel. There ARE seals or "O" rings to keep the spools from leaking EXTERNALLY.

More the likely, the OP's problem is bad seals on the piston in the hydraulic cylinder on the loader.

Thanks keep the comments coming everything helps since I am learning as I go. I just got off of work and will not be able to look at again till tomorrow.

Already replaced the cylinder so I know that is not it. Looking at the picture it is the left control on the main body. You can see how it does not stay in the up position anymore.

Once again thanks for any and all comments

by looking at the pic,i can see that one of the spools is not returning to center. On the oposite side of the lever is a cap over the spool end with springs and such behind it,i wonder if a snapring let go or a screw backed out of the spool.
Are these spools valves detent or just spring loaded both ways?

If you take the lever and end cap off,you should be able to pull the spool right out of the block,
There should a 0 ring seal in the lever side in the block.

Usually that left of the 2 runs the loader arms up and down not the scoop. If your lever moves real easy and dont stay on center look at the back side of the valve there should be a spring to center the valve under a cover of some sort could be just like the valve on the left side. That 1 has a cover held on by screws to cover the spring and keep dirt out. If your valve works but don't stay centered Then you have a spring problem.
