3 inches of snow here in Western SC, more snow and sleet coming down. Temp 25 deg. Sleet and freezing rain continuing into Tuesday. Yesterday I fed cows enough for 2-3 days. I guess the next time I feed I will have the frozen twine stuck to the bales to deal with. I feel for you guys further North that have to deal with this most of the winter.

Kieth we got 25 deg. here as well. No snow or ice.

Just another winter day with light snow later today.

Most of the time we do not fight the twines.

We left them on and let the cows eat around them.

That plastic net stuff has to come off though. A couple of guys found out the hard way what that net does to the cows stomach.

Here in central NY, we've had more lake-effect snow here then I've seen in 30 years. But not a single big storm yet. We've had two small storms so far that dropped around 10" each time. So, it has basically been snowing every day - lightly and hardly amounts to anything.

This is the first year in a long time that I could move round-bales through my fields with a 2WD tractor (with chains) without plowing a road first with my crawler or snowblower. Last year, at this time we had 3' to 4' of snow in the fields.

well i just went out and measured 3 1/2"s and still coming, in central SC, the weatherman said up to 1/2" of ice in a little bit, generator is gassed up.

Morning Allan, Oh yeah chores in the winter.

Never forget the time we had about 3 days of subzero temps with NW winds. The fourth day the wind switched to the south and brought all that cold air back.

Everything is protected by some sort of wind break from the north but not the south.

Wwent out that fourth morning to find 7 of my eight heated waters froze up. Took all day to get them thawed out.

Got in the house about 7 or so and mom called from Florida to complain that it got below freezing.

Made me so mad I hung up on her.

Was not a good day.

LOL on the complaint from FL about freezing, Gary.

Hey, Allan, I'm ready for a Chinook. Course, the problem is this stuff is coming from the South with moisture off the Gulf of Mexico

We even got snow in E Tx. Sun. evening. Just enough to cover the ground. But temp. around
27deg. this morning. A little cool for us.
Keep warm,

I had most of our hay (round bales) put up with net wrap and I"ve had relatively minor problems with removing it to open a bale. I think for our circumstances, it better than twine. When the strings freeze, they are very difficult to get off.

Fayetteville, NC started snowing about 5am. it's noon and still nothing where I'm at (about an hour north of Fayetteville) but it's supposed to be coming... Lots of closings listed on the news website though (400 and counting)

it's a pain getting the twine off especially after we had freezing rain but better than losing a $1200 cow over a few pennies worth of plastic, leave it on and some always ends up on the spreader beaters. Also seen it get wrapped around their feet cutting off circulation. Stand it up on end and usually you can get it off. dad tried the leave it on thing once , what a mess! School was cancelled today, used to have to be a whiteout before we got out, are administrators softer or more cautious today?

a bit of snow on the ground and a little cool this morning... 24 below zero (actual temp... not wind chill)... a bit brisk feeding this morning!

8 inches of the white stuff here last night and today, the wind is the main concern, forecast calls for 20mph winds after midnight, that will be a disaster.

Here in North Eastern Ontario we have about 2 inches of old snow and it is about 20 degrees in the daytime, and about 10 at night. Very warm for us, and I wish it would snow so I don't have to water the sheep. They prefer snow to water if it is available, but now it's to hard for them to eat. The snowmobile trails are not even open yet. The frost is 3 or 4 feet into the ground, so it will be a very slow spring.

When I was in school, the principal and superintendent both lived two blocks from school, if they could make it there you were expected to make it also. I always thought it would be interesting if they lived five or more miles out in the sticks if we would ever have had school in the winter. BT
