Starks Harvesters

Just finished reading Starks Harvesters, a gift from my wife. Dont know if you guys have read it or not but I really enjoyed it. It tells the story of contact harvesting through the late 70's early 80's, seems like it was a real adventure but very hard work and only really suited to young men with lots of energy. I assume contract harvesting still goes on in the US and Canada, if only I were younger I think I would really fancy a summer doing that. I have just started reading one of my other presents which is The Journals of Lewis and Clark so I guess that will also be interesting reading.

I went on the harvest last summer Oklahoma to Montana. Best time of my life.

I almost went close to twenty years ago and passed up the chance. I found myself unemployed this past year and thought what better time to go for it.

Went on the harvest in the early 60's. Only things that had cabs were the grain trucks. When working, long hours, when not working long hours of doing nothing. Lots of fun. Why wouldn't it be, first time off the farm and away from home.
