Ebay just NEVER quits! I am a LONGTIME ebay user and signed up before they required a credit card on file for fee payments. I was "grandfathered in" and sold on and off for years there.

I have ALWAYS paid my seller fees and been a member in good standing, never suspended.

Tonight I listed an item and was greeted with the following messages: Attention Sellers:

"We appreciate your business on eBay!

We show that you do not have an Automatic Payment Method (credit card, debit card or PayPal account) on file with us to pay your eBay seller fees. We will need you to provide this information today in order to continue listing your items on eBay. Until this is completed you will not be able to list or revise any additional items on eBay.

It's quick and easy to do - just click here and provide your Automatic Payment Method to continue listing."

It just NEVER ends!

Hi Bob,

Has it been a while since you last sold something?

They started that policy back in what? '99? Long, long time ago at any rate.

NOPE.....You could buy and sell without credit card info as late as 2-1/2 years ago. I paid ONLY with USPS money orders UNTIL they mandated PAYPAL. SOME sellers will still work "back channel" and allow payment with money orders.

You can still pay cash with pickup only items and
you can use a Credit Card to pay thru Paypal but not have a Paypal account. And as you say most sellers will let you pay with a money order if you email them and you have good feedback.

It has been my experiences that many large businesses periodically update their records and ask all account customers to update credit information.

UNTIL Feebay/PayPal became co-conspirators, I used Fleabay quite a bit. (Over 2000 sales/purchases) Since, exactly ONE purchase. I don't like being forced to use plastic via the 'net. Not that I don't on occasion, just that I don't like it when two people can't do business honestly and on their own terms.

I got one of those to.A week later when i went to post an add there was no problem.I thought it might have been a scam.

I find it interesting that even though ebay policy does not allow payment by check that when they send an email invoice it states "If you send your payment (e.g. cheque) by post, add a copy of this e-mail and send everything to the following address. Please note that eBay does not permit sellers to accept cash payments sent by post
"

You guys missed his point. It wasn't the sellers he was buying from that were requiring the change. It is E-bay wanting to change how IT collects ITS fees for commission and listing. To the respondents saying "it's business" NO HONEST business takes a steady repeat customer with an excellent payment record and puts them on what amounts to C.O.D., not if they wish to keep that customer.

Past hand shake type dealings mean nothing any more in most aspects of life and more so in the buisness world. You are one noncomformist in a vast group of conformists.Don't stress your self over it.You have to finally do what every other user has to do no matter how much it insults you to do so.It appears you have to give in or get out,the choice is yours.

I've pretty much given up on Ebay. Rarely even go there any more.
They've always had my credit card but when they made it so you can't list an item and not accept electronic forms of payment - Payscam, I mean paypal - I gave up on listing anything.
They also kept tweaking everything - login procedures, listing procedures, forcing you to use flashplayer, etc, etc.
I shook the dust off my feet when I left.

"they also kept tweaking everything - login procedures, listing procedures, forcing you to use flashplayer"

I agree with you 100% on that. It's almost like a video game or something to open ebay and sign in and get to My ebay. WHO needs all that crap just to get to my ebay?

I just followed a link from another board to some weights on ebay. Auction says local pickup only. NoWhere on the page could I find where they were located.
Sheesh

Personally, I find paypal much more reliable and convenient than dealing with "paper money."

I've lost track of the number of times that people have stiffed me, apparently because getting a money order and mailing it is too much trouble.

I have yet to have a deadbeat through paypal.

I also like paying via paypal because it cuts 3-4 days off the transaction. Instead of waiting a week for my item, I get it in 2-3 days.

Quite often, I can't get away from work to get to the post office during business hours to buy a money order. With paypal I don't need to.

If you want to rail against something, rail against businesses who are only open during business hours! How the he!! an I supposed to support my local mom&pop hardware if they're only open from 8:30AM to 4:30PM Monday-Friday??? I work from 8AM to 5PM.

I notice that a LOT lately that the location of the item is not specified. If it weighs over a pound or two, location is VERY important in making a decision to buy it. I don't understand WHY fleabay doesn't REQUIRE the location of an item to be listed.

I buy and sell some pretty uncommon parts and the variety of things to buy and the wide exposure when you are selling is GREAT, but ebay just keeps getting harder to use and harder to deal with all the time.

Used to buy a lot of stuff from EBay, up til a couple years ago.

Got an email alert one day advising me of a purchase paid by PayPal. Knowing I hadn't bid on anything I checked my PayPal account and lo and behold someone had used my account to purchase and download $300.00 worth of I-Tunes. Contacted PayPal via their dispute resolution form and stated I had not purchased any thing. It took them a day to respond via email that they would look into it and let me know in 15 days. In the meantime I checked the Mastercard account that was associated with PayPal and found the $300.00 charge on the account.

Calling Mastercard I was told that since the charge was handled by PayPal they were the ones who had to handle the charge/credit, that it was out of Mastercard's hands.

While waiting for PayPal( 15 days), they hit me for another $300.00 that was instantly processed and charged to my Mastercard.

The only recourse was to close the Mastercard account to stop these unauthorized charges. I ended up paying the Mastercard account.

PayPal finally fiqured out that the charges weren't mine, i.e. someone had hacked my PayPal account. They are telling me that since I closed the Mastercard account they have no place to put the credit. WILL NOT send me a check and have locked the PayPal account so I can't even access it.

That $600.00 is the last $600.00 Ebay or PayPal will ever see of mine. I hope they are doing something worthwhile with it!!!!!

Any vendor, any where, who stipulates that payment must be made with or thru PayPal will not get my business.

Actually I have found Amazon.com to be my source for most things bought over the internet. Good people, good products, and so far, not the first hint of impropriety on any ones part.

I second what mkirsch says and more.
To me PayPal it the best thing that happened. Some businesses on the web are also accepting from PayPal I like that. I don't have to scatter my credit card number all over the world. Did I say that they got my money back once from a dead beat seller?
It's their company and they make the rules. It's your choice to use them or not.

I would think that by definition, businesses are only open during business hours. I get your point, though.

Regards dispute with eBay/Paypal, had a similar situation. They would not . . . could not . . . did not . . . policy was . . . I just kept calling different times of day, different days til I got an eBay employee/operator that could, would, did make it right. This technique works with many call-in companies, sometimes even government agencies. Each operator has access to the computer and the policies, but each also interprets their own version. Find someone there who will interpret in your favor. Asking for supervisor is also worth a try, but I have just had more luck with completely different personnel. Even middle of the night, when they are not so busy can be helpful.

Best of Luck, LilFarmer. I would certainly go after the amount you speak of.

Monday morning quarter backing says that you can freeze any credit card account. That does two things. It prevents any further charges (including yours) from anyone of any kind, and it can help locate who is placing unauthorized charges on the card.
When the dispute is resolved, you can have the freeze taken off, have a new account number issued, or close the account.
Keep on the, someone will pay it as they would not want to end up in court as you have the case won.

While I really resent and don't like being told how to conduct my business (and I usually just walk away) I have to say that Paypal/Ebay has taken care of two situations where I would have probably been left high and dry if I had paid directly. One deal was for almost $800 and the other about $50. In both cases they refunded my money after I filed a claim and presented documentation as to what had taken place. So, on one hand I don't like being ordered to do it but on the other it's worked out pretty good for me.
I guess it's just the principal of being told that I have to do something a certain way makes me not want to do it. I guess I don't take orders/ultimatums very well.
