My vision is getting worse with each year. Glasses don't seam to give me clear vision anymore. The eye doctor says it is because of cataract's forming in my eyes. To have better vision I need to have cataract surgery which will improve my vision. Has anyone had this done? Stan

I haven't needed to have it done, but I know some who have.

One of my wife's brothers recently had it done and he can drive a car again for the first time in two years.

I have not but I'm thinkin about it. Two good friends of mine have had it done and they say there's nothing to it. The doctor replaces the lense in your eye. Mike said the worst part was having to put eye drops in your eyes for a few days. I know it's a real pita always looking for a magnifying glass. Good luck.

Haven't had it done myself, but know lots of folks who have.

To a man, they claim that it is a walk in the park. Expensive, but stress free.

Read somewhere that the human eye is the fastest healing organ; a matter of hours instead of days or weeks.

My buddys Dad had it done last year. He says he wishes he had done it years ago instead of waiting. He sees like a young man again. Best thing he has done in years!
Best of Luck and Good Wishes.

Had it done to both of my eyes about four years ago and put in new lens. Nothing to it You may have a little film grow over the new lens. They just make a hole in it with laser and away you go.

My Mom, mother-in-law, and father-in-law have all had it done. There is some risk but no one I know had any problems and all can see much better now.

I have had the surgery in both eyes. There is not much to it. They will do one eye and wait two weeks and do the other one. It will only take about two minutes to do one eye after they get you ready. It is like a bald headed man, like me getting a hair cut. As soon as he set down in the chair they call for the next customer.

I had it done about four years ago to both eyes, one at a time of coarse. I drove home from the first one with my glasses off, could see better with the one that was just done than the one that still needed to be done even with my glasses on. I need reading glass on some things, but can read a news paper without glasses. Go for it, will be the best thing you can do.

My dad just had it a few weeks ago, at age 78. His vision improved by 30%..... he thought he was going to loose his license as the doc said he would not pass the drivers exam. Could now pass the test without glasses!!!!

He was very happy with that of course.

Best of luck with yours,,,, make sure you pick a good or great doc.

Really nothing to it. I had it done 2 years ago and I'm 72 years old. I went from not being able to see very good with glasses to almost 20/20 vision without glasses. I need them to read and that's all. If it was on your driving licence that you need glasses you'll either have to wear them or get it taken off your licence. Other wise you could get a ticket. Good luck and truly get it done. It's painless. I buy a cheap pair of reading glasses.

Had one done in 1988 and the other one done in 2003. Lenses put in both of them. I can pass drivers test for driving every year and can read without glasses if lighting is right. My problem is that I am diabetic and I am night blind. Can not see in darkness without a light. Do not drive after dark at all. Amazing how your eyes change during the years..........JB

I have had both of mine done. One 3 years ago and the other 4 years ago. It was getting to were everything was dark and blurry. Driving at night was out of the question. The procedure wasn't anything and the results were immediate and very impressive. The difference was amazing. I can now see good and I don't even wear reading glasses anymore except if I am reading something fairly small in low light.
I remember when I was a kid my mother had it done, the surgery was serious and the recovery period was a long drawn out ordeal. With the procedure they use now it is almost a non event and I could see a whole lot better an hour later when I walked out of the building. My wife drove me home, I got in my truck and took off.

I had mine done a year ago and only need reading glasses for fine print. Nice to throw away bifocal and later trifocals after twenty something years. Better get it done before external_linkcare decides to not pay for it. TDF

My late sister had it done and she didn't have any problems with the surgery. One of my uncles had it done and they blinded him in one eye. I have cataract's, but they're not far enough along to get surgery. My wife has them too. My health care through the government will cover the surgery. May have to pay a co-payment for the surgery whenever we need it. Hal
PS: My health care is from the Civil Service health care that Ike and Nixon passed in 1960. I can still use the VA too. Every year in Nov. I can change carriers when its open season, but I've been with Kaiser since 1988.

They now have a flexible lens called Crystal Lens that works like your lens did when you were young so you can see close up too.

Had left eye done in July; now tests 20/20. Am near-sighted in right eye, so no glasses needed.......not to read, not to drive, nothing. Things are not perfect; am more aware of flickering fluorscent lights.

I was told about that lens also, but would be about 1,500 more for each eye. I thought for that money I could use reading glasses. Stan

I was all enthused about the 'new' lens and was willing to pay the extra dough. My opthamologist/surgeon talked me out of it; he implants them if the patient insists, but said I was MUCH more liable to have trouble afterwards.........

My wife had both eyes done at age 59. She couldn't see squat since childhood. Wore thick glasses. Now no glasses except to read and I can't get away with nuthin'. LOL

My mother-in-law just had it done 2 months ago(she is 80) only needs reading glasses and now I have to be careful when getting off the tractor and watering the bushes on the back of the farm, she now can see our fences clearly on the back forty. Good luck and I wouldn't think twice about it to have that clear of vision.

Fantastic procedure! Just make absolutely sure that you have a very experienced eye specialist perform the surgery. My dad had his eyes done in the early 90's when it was a relatively new procedure with very few specialists that were performing it. My dads optometrist recommended my dad pay the extra money and go to Calgary(3 hours away) to the Gimbel Eye Center(a pioneer in cataract surgery). The procedure was normally $4000/eye back then but Alberta healthcare paid half. My dad said it was like getting a new set of eyes! They also gave him a video of the whole procedure. Only takes about a minute. The reason my dads optometrist recommended going to Gimble(private clinic) over having it done in the hospital at an even lower cost was because another client of the optometrists wanted to save money and didn't mind waiting to have it done in the hospital. Bad mistake on the patients part. He was left with scratched corneas and other problems from the surgery. The optometrist couldn't give the same of the Dr. who botched the surgery because of legal reasons. There has been a lot of debate over private clinics in Alberta. The Gimble Eye Center was one of the first private specialty clinics. They had patients from all over the world with a better than 99% success rate. My dad didn't regret going there at all. Dave

had left one done 2yrs ago , had detacthed retina about 2wks later happens in about 10% of procedures just be sure if you have any trouble don;t wait get it checked out kj

Hey Chief, Had one done Dec'05, 2nd Jan'06. Go for it as others have said. Best and easiest thing you can imagine.Just need reading glasses from the Dollar Store.I noticed how much more vivid the color blue was and the Dr. said that cataracts had a yellowish color and that it affected blue a lot.You will be glad if you decide to have the procedure done.

My right eye is is scheduled for Jan 20th, the left eye the 27th. The eyes went from being far sighted to near sighted in the last ten months and things are real foggy. Doctor says I should come out 20/20 and just need reading glasses.

I heard somewhere, that 60% of Japanese people have Cataracts. The rest drive Rincolns! :) LOL! Seriously, many of my parent's friends have had it done, each year the technology gets better, and it takes less time to heal. I wouldn't worry much!

My dad (83) and mother (80) and a friend of ours (86) all had cataracts removed on both eyes last year, with excellent results, and no probems in the recovery. You have to wear sunglasses in the sun for a short time , and put a bunch of eyedrops in for a short time after its done.

I just finished also had Pteriguim removed from both eyes. They will replace the lens doesent take verry long and next day you will be ready to go. They wont let you drive home after operation. Ihad three trips to get both eyes done. Left eye the did the "trige" and catarac same time took that eye couple weeks to come around right eye they did the "trigs" first then two weeks later did the catarac.
