I just got a new HP computer and when i try to access an email address from a web site i click on the email and get a message that says " could not preform the operation because default mail client is not propery installed".Anyone know what that means? Thank.

Yes, that means exactly what it says. Your computer probably came with two email programs loaded on it (for Windows). You have to go into properties and tell it which program you want to be your default for email.

When your web-browser is open, click on "tools", then "Internet Options", then "programs" tab, then click for "set programs" and then for "set your default programs."

Your computer comes with default settings for every program and file extension you can imagine. So, many things have to be set by you.

I did that, chose internet explorer, but nothing changed. There are about 15 choices, don't know which one is right.

Win 7 doesn't have a built in e-mail client.(Outlook) You can purchase one from MS, use the one in Office or download a freebie.

Windows 7 gets shipped with Email, just like all the Windows operating systems have. I've got two new machines here right now - with Windows 7 "Home Premium" which is the cheapest and most scaled-down version of Windows and it certainly does have a mail program. Many new computers with Windows 7, including HP come with two mail programs. Thus the reason why you have to choose a default.

I use my server as a home page and get my mail through them. That all works, just can't send an email off a web site.
