Wonderful Pictures.We've been there many times as we used to summer near there so the Gorge was one of the places we would take visitors.We still go to Colo. for the summers,our son lives near Cripple Creek and we summer now at lake George.
 
My best friend was raised in Canon City,I have been there many times.We square danced on the bridge at the annual "Bridge Dance".All those dancing feet would cause the bridge to bounce and sway to the music....COOL!My friend's father installed the phone system in the late 50s(he had to hang under the bridge on a sling to do this),he was given a lifetime pass to the bridge in appreciation for his work .It's a neat place to visit.
 
I guess I should add for those who have not been, it is a wooden deck bridge, spaces between the boards, some boards are loose. Not for those who are afraid of heights. There is still some vehicle traffic across the bridge, to get to the amusement park on the south side.

The bridge is basicly a "tourist trap".It is literaly a road to nowhere,although a small narrow gravel road circles back to the hiway(US 50)on the back side.
 
After the first 50 feet or so I suppose it doesn't matter how much higher the bridge is. Still makes me uneasy though.
 
Me too.......I was there 46 years ago. I was 15 years old and scared to death to ride across that thing in the car with my folks. I decided I'd walk across! I can't believe it still has that same rickity a$$ bridge deck on it. Some things never change.
 
I was there in March of 1978. I remember looking down at the RR tracks, but there was no train at the moment. Pretty neat though.
