O.T. Computer ills.

Now that the Christmas Post have slowed down, So has MY computer.Turned it on today and the screen filled with a bunch of technical gobblygook ,telling me they have the situation well in hand. Well not in those words, but information I didn"t understand at all. Now Victor re did the removal of items in the box at the left of the screen,ie. Y T,Craigs list ,Flee bay. This computer is still crawling out of the swamp when trying to down load Y T. Every now and then here comes MCAfee ICON tellin me Your computer may be at risk.Hog wash. I dont open any E.Mail if I"m not certain who it is. I"ll send stuff to SPAM . Viagra etc. He-l bells .I "m not at liberty to use such stuff any way. WHO CARES???? I figure that the slowness is in fact because Yahoo"s customers are on the computer while on Christmas Vacation. Hope thats all it is.Talk about SLOW, When WE made the music videos, The time it took to make em ,The world could have been made quicker then the down load program. Son says we could buy a much quicker program but the cost (for how little we use it) would be truly expensive,over twice the cost we have with this process. Don"t think we will re invest in a more expensive program. Now my question to you folks is,Is this slowness affecting your computer, Videos, ect?? Hate being the only guy in this leaky boat. Not having any problems here. Almost sounds like a blue screen of death. A VIRUS

Hi Lou from WI This is Larry's wife. I enjoyed your music so much throughout Christmas.

Reading your post, I am not a computer expert by any means. I can share with you two weeks before Christmas our emails, and everything was extremely slow that we just walked away and came back after 15-20 minutes. I figured that our
AVG anti virus(free) needed to be upgraded. After that the "warnings" and unwanted emails stopped. This anti virus is free. Our computer man set us up with it. Thankfully Larry has been posting and receiving normally. Yahoo was so slow, but everything is back to normal, after I upgraded the anti virus. Hope that helps a little.

lou, sounds like you got a virus. i use mozilla firefox for the internet and the free avg anti virus software. works pretty good. you may have gotten a virus attached to somebodys email you know.

Boy The format on Y.T has changed here, Not sure if we got hit with a virus but Victor is going to go through the whole process again and try and figure out what went hay wire, I truly appreciate your replys. Use firefox for starters but if you want real protection, spend a little more and get an Apple machine. You won"t regret it. Beats all I"ve ever seen that you can be made to think complicated (Windows) and find it difficult to think simple (Mac). Go into an Apple store and at least let them give you the pitch, then decide.

All this holliday stuff (ecards, music, pictures, etc) really loads up the temp internet files and plugs up the memory needed to open things. Start by emptyiny them and getting rid of cookies. Another good idea is to set your email so it dumps any emails that are forwarded (has an FW in front of the subject, then manually delete any that slip through before you open them (regardless if your best friend tommy or sister bertha sent it to you). You'll avoid most viruses and worms by just doing that.

Dave we took Glenster s advice and Victor installed MOZILLA and man it's faster then fast, Like the old lady who tripped the Ice man and beat him to the floor.Oops wanting this terrific speed to hold.Keep this in mind when using your people skills. Regards, LOU.

that is now much faster to hold it's speed ?
Seems as though when I want speed, nothing happens

Thanks for the helpful reply buttttttttt it would be to much of an expensive avenue for us at this time. All new programs plus a new computer .When we purchased this unit from dell, we ordered the best they had. Over $2,500.00 in all. can't do that again. Need a building for (old Ugly) our 706 plus other equipment. Regards LOU.

Thanks for the reply. Glenster and others gave us good advice. Bet someone snook in a virus in their reply. Any way, were now up and running. Still don't know about the time it takes to down load a music video . Maybe later on I'll try and do one in ragtime piano .lol. Regards LOU.

It's all fun and games til someone loses an eye (gets a virus) :roll:

Just have to be careful. Doesn't take the person forwarding but a second to get rid of the FW (and all the other garbage that fills up the first 50% of most forwarded stuff before they click send.

Good morning Lou, just got up to a state of emergency in NJ. The AVG website is free.avg.com Go to the right side where is says "free". Thanks to our computer man that installed the computer he set that up. Would have never know about it otherwise. - Larry's wife

Typical Windows nonsense. I suggest you start by downloading the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials.

It amazes me that people continue to use Windows with all the virus problems. By the way, the virus that you have to worry about is the one you don't see. It's sitting there quietly, sniffing your passwords and bank account numbers.
