Is it OK to use Rotella 15-40 oil in My John Deere LA. It has not had any non-detergent oil in it since it's recent engine rebuild.

NO!!!!!!!!! How could you dream of doing such an irresponsible thing?????? You must use 5-W10 or your LA will consume an additional 2 ounces of fuel per hour that you work it! Think how much more of our precious fossil fuel will be used up. Think of all the additional emissions and all the damage to the ozone layer and all the additional global warming!!! Think of all the yet undiscovered species that will become extinct. Let's hope that this thread is deleted before any one else sees it and decides to use 15-w40 in their antique tractor!!!

Showcrop: Your reply shows an abysmal lack of understanding of antique tractors and the real life world in general.

Sorry, I thought that it was obvious that I was poking fun at the liberals and their agenda.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer to use synthetic oil when I can-- BUT, if the liberals had their way that would be the ONLY oil we could use.

Why, just imagine (as John Lennon said)-- if everyone used synthetic oil we could save several barrels of oil every day. At the end of a month we might have saved enough oil to keep Al Gore's jet in the air for a day, or Air Force one flying for a couple hours. DOUG

showcrop, Just as soon as I read your RE: I knew what you meant and I totally agree with you. So don't feel bad and think no one knew your message.

Ive had this discussion before. If you rebuilt to factory specks NO! 15w40 Rotella being sold now is designed for an engine built after 2002. You need to run a similar oil like a straight 30w like when the engine was new. Alot of older engines will not hold oil pressure when warmed up because oil gets to thin. That oil was not designed to be run in older engines. All the newer engines have very tight tolerances and need a thinner multi weight oils. Every JD dealer will tell you to run a straight 30W in that engine. Bandit

The 15 is cold viscosity, so it will crank easier to start it. The 40 is the viscosity of 40 wt oil when hot in normal operation. It will be just fine and dandy. Thicker when hot, and thinner when cold What a deal. Jim

Showcrop: My sincere apologies!...I fell for the whole thing and thought you were another off the wall abundant. I too, like to take issue with the whole abundant thing. Best wishes and a Happy New Year.

Where did you get that BS about 2002 and newer engines? If that were true Rotella would have a gigantic class action law suit. Better do your homework.
