I collect old JDs snowmobiles. We just donot have quit enough snow yet. we got 22 inches 2 weeks ago but we need more for the trails to be groomed properly Ilive in central WI

i have a JD 440 trail fire bought new in 1979. in pretty good shape still just use it once in a while.

I had a JD 500 and some old SkiDoos, but I sold/scrapped them about 5 years ago.
No room to keep them and too much maintenance required to run them.

I hung on to my 76 AC Panther. Runs trouble free for the little bit of bumping around I do.

No snow yet in Central Pa.

I do some: ski doo, moto ski and partial to a few others. There are a few organization and clubs for this too.

I have an OLD Ski-Doo. Put a new track on it before we quit using it. I would sell if anyone is interested.

I had one old style and one new style JD 440 Liquifire down in the barn for a long time. And for a long time I had them on Craigslist. Started at $250 for the pair. Both ran good but one need a new clutch belt. Finally got down to $75 for the pair with no takers, so I squashed them with the backhoe and got $.27 a pound for them.

I have amassed six Massey Ferguson Ski Whiz machines, all from 1972-1976. I have two running and should be able to get three out of the four going, yep steal enough off of one to get three going. There are antique snowmobile clubs and some modern Snowmobile clubs hold antique days where everyone hauls their oldies out of the barn and shows up with them. Starting to become a fad!

I have a 71 or 72 Skiroul RTX 300 with a 290ss Sachs engine in it. It has a Tilliston HD carb on it, Its been set up awhile now. I also have a 89 Arctic Cat 650 wildcat,PSI pipes, 44mm carbs milled heads ect, man that thing was fast. Also had a Yamaha sl 330 from 69 or so, but that one went into the dumpster, Dad got sick of it in his yard. Newest sled I have is a Arctic Cat Sno Pro ZR440 from 99.

Up until a little more than a year ago I had 30 + JD sleds..

I still have 6.. 1977 340 Liquifire, 1976 440 Cyclone, and a 78 340 and 440 Cyclone. I bought 2 more earlier this week, both 340's, one Liquifire, One Cyclone. The Liquifire should run, the Cyclone is good for parts.

I also have a Ski-Whiz (Massey Ferguson) SST 500.

When we go north, I have a 94 Arctic Cat ZR440 and a 04 Z570

Just sold both my 1973 Sno Jet Star Jet 338s. Owned them since new, dad bought them. Fun to ride, but they were at the point of needing totally gone through to get them back in shape. Kids didn"t have an interest in them, so down the road they went.

Maybe in a few years I"ll look another.

Jay,

No, it's not a sno-pro that I'm aware of, just a regular ol' ZR.. I picked it up second hand a few years back for $600.. I've put a few hundred miles on it since, replaced a few bearings, exhaust springs, and just typical routine maintenance.. Pretty dang clean for it's age.

I noticed during prep last week that the expansion chamber is starting to crack.. Hopefully I can wire weld it and it'll hold.. I did it on the ZR 580 I used to have, held until I got rid of it anyhow.. (rode it quite a bit after welding).. Just can't justify the purchase price of a new one for a sled that old.

It all started for me when I bought a new 1983 trail fire. I still have it and it is in perfect shape with only 1200 miles .Then 5 years ago I got on a kick to start collecting them.
1 1983 trailfire
1 1980 liquidfire
2 82 sprintfires with 500 original mile each
2 snowfires
1 sprinfire
1 jd 600
2 sportfires
then a few for parts

Brother and myself didn't collect but maybe should have kept some of the old machines; Late 60's/early 70's Sno-Hawk,Sno Jet, a 74 Ski-Doo 440 (a small bulldozer in diguise) a selection of Ski-Doo Elans, a Chinook. Tim (brother) still has a pair of John Deere 295 RS that need a fair bit of work,he currently runs a Ski-Doo FormulaZ

Don't "collect" but have "kept" both my wife's '72 Ski-Doo Olympic and my '71 Moto-Ski "Zepher" long track. I used the Moto-Ski last about 6 years ago to skid firewood when I ran a little short in March.
I junked a 60s Ski-Doo 25 years ago but kept the rear grab bars because they are cast in the form of Ski-Doo which I thought was pretty neat. Like a lot of my "stuff" tho, I'll be darned if I can remember where I put them!! LOL

If someone collects them there was an old JD snowmobile sitting out in front of a house just east of the Des Moines airport this past summer. Send me an e-mail and I'll try to describe where I saw it.

I went all the way through this post and NO PICTURES whats up with that. Best I could do was this old Kawasaki. That's my youngest He lives in Curtiss Wi. You could probably guess the Wi part. No he didn't make it.

I have a 1978 JD Cyclone 340 as well as my "new" sled, 1999 Polaris Indy Trail. Also an old non-running Kawasaki/sno-jet a little older than the one in the picture below.

I have a couple, I actually live in Georgia but grew up in MN, keep a "73 Ski Doo Olympique and a "76 JD 300 at mom and dad"s, have a "71 Ski Doo Elan and a "68 Ski Doo Olympique in Virginia at my inlaws.

I have written a couple articles for Vintage Snowmobiler magazine.

In Waconia, MN there is a huge ride in and swap meet each year, sort of like Sturgis for vintage sleds. I fly back each couple years when I can afford it.

Ok, since someone said something, here's a pic for you.. These are the machines I had that ran at the time.. This was probably 3 years ago now

From Left to right (as my memory recalls) 81 JD Spitfire, 78 Cyclone 340 (still have) 80? Trailfire 340, 80 Trailfire 440, 82 Trailfire 440 (sold to family member) and my 77 340 Liquifire (I'm second owner, always barn kept, 860 miles.. VERY VERY CLEAN)

I have an old Luger and a Ski-Boose. Tried to sell them but no takers. Not many collectors in the West and none of the Easterners who resonded to the ad for the non-rusted Ski-Boose wanted to pay the freight.
If anyone here is interested I can dig them out and take pictures. Got more snow last night

(quoted from post at 15:16:46 12/25/10) I have an OLD Ski-Doo. Put a new track on it before we quit using it. I would sell if anyone is interested.

What year? Pic?

I rode a '99 Sno pro ZR 440 for a day one time. That was a serious sled.
