American made diesel

I want to repower an old tractor with a modern american diesel, or maybe a Perkins out of a combine. I would like it to be fuel efficient, I do not plan on looking at it I want it to be a work tractor. Please give me your Ideas.....

Why not just find an older tractor with a good diesel in it already? You didn't give much to go on. Do you want it to be 40 HP or 400 HP? Do you want a cab etc.?

why not out of a combine the same make as your tractor? a lot of these engines will work i know on some of the IH. combines the engines would fit a 706

Are you sure? I've got a 4630 ford that is basically the same tractor and it was built in England. As far as I know there isn't a tractor under 80HP made in the US but I could be wrong.

No, your right some were built in USA and some were built in England. I think by serial number mine was US built. But mine is a early 80s tractor, maybe a 82? Some time later they stoped building anything under 100hp in America. But Hey, Id take a English built Ford like yours, a 4630 is much newer than mine, I think it even has the New Holland/ Ford name.

I bought mine new in '92 and it's not a NH. They would be a good choice they are good tractors, I've got over 4000 hours of hard use on it. The only thing I've done is a water pump, fuel pump and injectors

I think that after about 1981, all Those Fords & New Hollands were built in India by The Escort Group (later called Farmtracs). Decals were put on here or in Eng so they could say "final assembly...".

Im not an expert, but I dont think 80s fords were ever built in India? Ya my compact ford 1720 is made in Japan, but its a 1994.

The only Ford's assembled in India were for the India market or that general vicinity. Ford tractors for North America were assembled at Highland Park until December 1974 and at Romeo until '86-'87 vicinity. Afterwards all utility models were assembled at Basildon UK as they had been for the most of the world previous to that anyhow. The larger tractors (TW) were assembled at Antwerp, Belgium until they were discontinued while their replacement (Genesis) was assembled at the Versatile plant in Winnipeg...
The only Escort's tractors that ever made it here were branded Farmtrac I believe...

I'll admit that they did a good job of matching the color but it is my understanding that's as far as it goes.

A 170 or 175 Allis Chalmers is a very efficient tractor with the Perkins Diesel...and you can probably pick one up cheaper than you can repower another....I have 3 and always keep an eye out for another....

I think it was a little ealier, about 84 or 85. I worked for GM at the Livonia Engine plant, and we started making a aluminum V8 in 81. Ford hired away a couple of our engineers a couple years later when the converted the Romeo plant over for the Ford aluminmum V8.

google Cummins repower, or call Steve Mallicoat at Cummins in IA- kits available. 1-319-366-7537.

Please tell me this thread is as confusing to you as it is to me...

The guy never said WHAT TRACTOR he wants to repower.

Any IH row crop from the 460 on up is an easy conversion, and there are lots of options, from factory IH engines to Cummins conversion kits.

I think the 3 cylinder tractor production was shifted towards the end of 85 but the 4 cylinder 10 series run continued I think into 87. I don't know if they had multiple lines and phased them out one at a time or if it was just a slow rundown before the changeover.

Deere makes many of the 5000-series models in <a href="http://www.external_link/farm-tractors/tractor-brands/johndeere/johndeere-tractors-factory-sorted.html">Georgia</a>.

Makes or do they just assemble them in Ga. from components? Where are the components made?

Yup Perkins, that's American made.
I've found some farmers very proud of their "American" equipment.Walked over to the serial number plate, rubbed the grease off and pointed out a country other than the US.
Somehow I was then the one at fault and to blame.

id reccomend a white american 60 or an 80. They have cummins engines and can be used as chore tractors or big tractors. They were the last farm tractor under 100 hp that was made in America!
