Sorry if it seems like this is a whine, but I'm now frustrated, needing to vent, and looking for advice.

Last week I did all sorts of work to my 1986 F250 to get ready to go north snowmobiling.. The majority of the work was brake work, as I've had rear brake issues since I got the truck, so I put all new lines, hoses, hardware, wheel cylinders, drums.. You get the idea.. on it, and it seemed really great..

THINGS WERE GOING WELL until today.. I pulled a load of scrap in, and I started getting a funny noise.. drove the truck home and started investigating.. Noise seems to be coming from passenger rear.. Opened it up.. well, it appears that the "anchor pin" had broke, allowing the parking brake stuff fall apart. Luckily, other than a nick in the drum and shoe, everything looks ok..

Now the question: Any ideas where I could find the anchor pin/bolt, and the bushing and spring (And maybe the e-brake "arm")? I've been googling for 2 hours, no such luck, other than I now know they call it a anchor pin.. I'd really perfer new parts (but a used "arm" would be fine).. I'm gonna check with ford dealer in the am.. got fingers crossed, but seeking other ideas in case.

Napa and also O Rileys have a HELP board on a carosol, in their stores here, that have those brake pieces! and more.
 
I'm pretty sure Ford didn't change their 250's through 1994 or 95 so getting a wrecking yard arm and pin should be easy.
Parts store (NAPA) should have the rest.

Used parts don't bother me, aside maybe the little spring that was ruined.

I was thinking about the dorman/help products, but couldn't find a way online to see what they offered.

Well, I'm off to see what I can't find... Need to get the beast back running.. Guess if I don't find nothing, I'll tear the rear end of the 95 sitting in the driveway open and see if it's the same.

Napa is your freind.Ford will be your freind for 40-60% more in price,Don't understand why the Anchor pin became lost.Did you have it out doing the brake job? Those old fords are pretty simple to work on. I know,I've got one.Jh
 
just curious,do you use the parking brake often?they had trouble with the cables rusting in the sleeve right along that time frame.they would set but not release. That could be causing your troubles,after you get it back together make sure they are releasing all the way..,as for parts,if you are talking about the pin that holds the shoes,I would think any parts house would have the pins.might have to buy the whole set of springs to get it though.ive bought them for much older vehicles.

I took the anchor pin out when doing the rear brakes. I didn't actually lose it, it appears that either I did not put the nut on the backside (or perhaps it wasn't a locknut) or when I tightened it down I stressed it enough that it broke.

The pin, bushing, and spring were all inside the drum, and all are far too damaged to reuse.

My local NAPA (Which is what I would call a BETTER NAPA after seeing other's issues with the chain) Searched their books trying to find the pin, etc.. No such luck. I also tried Auto-Value (which our local has been ran by the same family for MANY MANY years), Auto Zone, O Reilly's, and about every other parts store around.

My local Ford dealer was most helpful, printed out a "exploded view" for both my 86 and 95, Looked up what other dealers nearby had, and give me the number for the one that had what I need.

As for the pin itself, I'm going to use a gr 8 1/4-28 bolt that has the same "shoulder length" as the original pin (and same dia. as well) as the pin new was nearly $20

As for the question about the parking brake: I have never tried to use it, and have no plan of trying to use it. I'm going to hook the cable back up on the arm that is slightly damaged and call it a day.. The "tabs" the cable hooks to are intact enough to hold the cable still, it just ground the end down a little, compared to the opposite side.
