OT Why can't they get along?

Spent the day at the kids bucket ball tournament.

Got me to wondering...why do so many concessions carry only Coke products or only Pepsi.

Why can't the public have both brands in the same building? Instead of the market being determined by which company has the slickest salesman, why not have both brands and let the public decide? Sorry I don't have any tractor problems at the moment.

most of the time it is determined on who gives them scoreboard or other items get the refreshment business, Mark

The same mentality that encourages selling naming rights to facilities that WE, the taxpayers are paying for.. Coke and Pepsi had a bidding war, and only one can win.. All this corporate Branding stuff makes me sick.. Good reason to buy the genric soft drinks..

It is because it us usually Pepsi or Coke that supplies the dispenser that gives the soda/pop.

A few years ago, I stopped at the C-store across the bridge from our business. A Pepsi driver was stocking his product on the shelves. Meanwhile, dressed-up man that was with Coke, was yelling and screaming at the deliveryman, that he was violating Coke space. I have to give credit to the Pepsi driver.. He just kept telling the Coke %$^#& call his supervisor.. I was hoping the driver would beat the crap out of the Coke guy, he sure did deserve it.. Heck, I would have joined in to help...

I don't know,...but ever since Micheal Jackson did commercials for Pepsi, I just drink the stuff anymore!

"Why can't the public have both brands in the same building?"

Money, profit, and exclusive contacts.

Actually Coke is preferred but Pepsi is cheaper. Maybe not in stores but for restaurants and bars it is. Knew a bar tender that told me that's the biggest reason a lot places have Pepsi instead of Coke even though Coke is more preferred. Most stores usually have both though. Dave

at Rutgers university here in central NJ,when I first started working around they they sold Coke in all the vending machines and in all the dining halls ,and at the football stadium, When the contract was up and available to bid on, Pepsi offerd the university such a large offer too get the contract that Coke did not get the contract, I am pretty sure I remember hearing the contract is for ten years and Pepsi gave the university 1 million dollars

I think it has something to do with those nasty issues of " competition and capitalism." Just hang on---bammy will soon do away with both "competition and capitalism" and you will be able to buy both brands government owned soft drinks wherever you are.

From thirty five years talking to my Foodservice customers I know that it is primarily as Bob says below exclusive contracts and as another says Pepsi is usually cheaper. And the public usually prefers Coke but usually doesn't care that much. But I have been told of many cases where a change was forced by differences in the level customer service, just as most of us are constantly looking for good service.

A few years ago a local small high school got a free basketball score clock in their gym if they sold RC Cola in the high school and ONLY RC Cola (and of course, the sister 7UP and Dr. Pepper drinks) for X amount of years.
I was amazed that Coke and Pepsi let that one slip away.

Back in the early 60s had a job in a grocery warehouse. Management was told by Coke that if they put any Pepsi products in they would pull there products out of the warehouse. (Coke was the big seller at that time) so no Pepsi products.

I worked for a municipality in Connecticut and we had a coke machine. Well most of us guys liked pepsi better so we had pepsi bring in their product.
It wasn't to long after that our boss got a visit from a state agency telling him coke was to be used because money went to a state organization. We had a good boss and he stood his ground and we kept pepsi. But I guess money talks. Free country not always. Rick

I worked at a concession stand for a couple of summers. One time I saw the invoice for the products we sold and tried to calculate the cost of a drink. Less than a penny per serving for the product; the rest is profit. The biggest expense was the paper cup.

"you will be able to buy both brands government owned soft drinks"

Nah, think "single payer". You'll drink the one flavor of kool-aid provided by the government and be told to like it.

Can't stand Dr. Pepper, Pepsi is the best but think sone fast food chains must be owned by Coke. Me I prefer Mug root bear if away from home, at home it is my well water. Several Pepsi plants in area, don't know if the small Coke plant that was in area is even still in buisness.

Because one company or the other will give the group more in the way of making signs, free ads etc to sell their product exclusively. Its a business deal.If you want to Pony up some $$$$ they'd most likely sell the products you want.

Like others have said,CONTRACTS,our two local county fairs only can sell Pepsi can be sold on the grounds.Maybe 1-2-5 yrs.down the road Coke or ?? may get the rights.

It is because your school board/school administration succumbed to black mail in the form of incentives to give an exclusive contract to one supplier.

Go to a grocery store and price Coke Cola, Pepsi, and the store brand cola. You will get an idea of the true cost of those so called FREE scoreboards, menu signs, etc. Same for beer stadiums, etc. Advertising costs/budgets are enormous.

I decided a long time ago that since I prefer Pepsi I would no longer drink Coke Cola. Ever try to get a Pepsi in a southern U.S. airport? It is dang near impossible.

Unless taken there by others I refuse to eat at Subway restaurants because they no longer give drink choice. Had been eating there for several days in a row a few years ago and suddenly one day there was no longer any Pepsi. I asked to speak with the manager and voiced my opinion and also mailed in a customer survey card.

Seems that iced tea or water is generally my drink of choice these days so no hardship.

around here Coke is king...only liquid my wife drinks is diet coke...between 12 to 16 cans a day & will only drink those in a can!

How about this one? The school that the grandkids go to have Coke products, which is fine for me as those are the one that I prefer. BUT, a bottle of Coke is $1.00 and a bottle of water is $1.50!! Water and pop came out of the same place!!

When I was teaching it was real easy to see. 50 grand a year in incentive payments to the school system plus 100 complimentary cases of coke products to the asst supt who was in charge of that stuff.

I drink Moxie. Have for 50 years or so. Second choice is Coke. I don"t buy water. Got a 450 foot well. Water sweet as it comes and clear as a bell.

i work for pepsi. we give you the machines but only pepsi products can be sold from it.You can"t put coke products in a pepsi machine or they will take it back. nobody owns there own machines to expensive and why bother when sombody wants to give you one.Bottom line its all about selling product.money talks.

I have a little bit of stock in Coke & in Pepsi but try to avoid both products, for nutritional reasons.

Coke and Pepsi contain phosphoric acid Both will dissolve rust.A study showed that teen aged girls who drank a lot of these soda had more bone breakage.Better study the sweetener used.I wonder how the acid reacts on the Aluminun can?192 oz in one day.
