Barn is full, don"t park my pick up / cars in the garage, still have two tractors that have to sit outside. Trying to justify a new shed or small building for a 70 656 w/ loader and 69 4520. Anyone have ideas for cheap garages/sheds/barns?
Would like to clean them up and paint but will hold off until I can get them inside.

Thanks

My method of affordable buildings has been- find what's available locally and/or cheapest-do as much as possible yourself- do it incrementally. It doesn't have to be all done at once. I've had foundations set and wait a little while. I framed up my shop in the early spring and then had to go to planting. Didn't put the roof on until June.
So only you can determine what you have available for machinery and help.

Even a roof is beter than nothing and the way it is set that roof against anouther building may only need 1 end wall to make a very good shelter.

Yep, if you can throw up a lean-to it's about the cheapest way you can go. You'll need minimum bracing. Just throw up some poles and nailers and screw on some steel.

Something to keep in mind on a lean to. If you are in a snow zone, remember where it drifts around a building so if you chose the place where the snow drifts it must be beefed up to cary the extra snow drift load.

If you place a smaller building in the same location, the rule of thumb is to double the first fifteen ft of rafters. We usualy just nail another rafter side by side for the first fifteen ft or so.

On a lean to, you may be able to rob the side wall from the exsisting building and use it on the lean to building.

I wil get in trouble for saying this, but our area sure has problems with these --almost a building--the ones that are cheap till the wind blows.

You may want to add in to the equation what the taxes will be on the different options, and also the value of the things that are taking up all that space now.

What about those metal carports that seem to be all the rage right now? I have seen them set up fully enclosed, gravel floor and a used garage door as a cheap garage. I have also heard of them referred to as kites. Perhaps they do not withstand the wind too well...

thats what i used for my new shop...poured a slab and installed roll up doors both ends...it looked like a hula dancer till i got walls on...solid as a rock now...bolted to slab every 5'

Can you add on to the barn? Your need is already justified as you don't have space to do work that needs to be done.

Shipping container isn't bad, can get by without taxes in many locations. Limited to 8x8 stuff to put in for the most part, but you can pack a lot in for just storage and hold their value over time to resell if you want different.

As well the fabric hoops; you got more of a temp 15 year building, but it might be taxed lower or not at all in some locations, and goes up cheap & offers pretty good storage area to store stuff per square foot. Something 30 foot or less wide can be pretty ecconomical and have a tall door for getting a bigger tractor or truck in.

Lean to as mentioned is cheap, if you have a building that is tall enough to start with.

What are your building skills, a place like Menards can have some pretty cheap 2-car garage kits for under 5 grand, but you need to do the concrete & carpenter work. They also have smaller pole building kits for cheap. Cheap if you have friends that work for a few beers; not so cheap if the drink a lot more than they work. ;)

Snow load & winds in your area can make a difference on what to pick.

If storage is all your really looking for you might want to look into a Clear Span building. From what I've seen and heard their buildings are really good quality, have a great warranty on the materials , and are very reasonabley priced. Too, depending on the type you choose and your location it can be considered a portable building instead of a fixed one so taxes aren't that big of an issue.
