Getting a lot of big ole flies in the house here in frigid Indiana. Recently bought a box of Navel oranges from the Lions Club. Also have a box of Clementines in the kitchen.Could they be hatching out from one or the other? Big darned things that we don't ordinarily have here even in summer.TIA,bob

its certainly possible...i havent seen any big flies but i always get fruit flies in the summer from fresh fruit...if you got a basement that doesnt freeze it'll slow down hatching.

I have been fighting them all winter. I think they must be hibernating in the walls and any sunny day they find their way into the house. But I've sprayed around the windows so all I ever get is dead ones on the floor.

Probably clutser flies. They live in the insulation in your house. They eat organic matter (think deasd asian lady beetles). I have some customers that deal with them and have them in my own house as well. Best bet uis a fly swatter or a can of fly spray from the ag store. Not a lot can be permenantly done with them

For decent control of flys, spiders and paper wasps. Hang a "vapona" pest strip in the attic. Most large hardware stores (Lowes) have them. East to use, just open and hang on a nail.

I've had a few of those buzzing on the window of the back door to the south. Don't know where the big buggers are coming from. I just shoe'em out the door. I don't think they last long out there.

Circle Flies
A farmer got pulled over by a state trooper for speeding, and the trooper started to lecture the farmer about his speed, and in general began to throw his weight around to try to make the farmer uncomfortable. Finally, the trooper got around to writing out the ticket. As he was doing that, he kept swatting at some flies that were buzzing around his head. The farmer said, "Having some problems with circle flies there, are ya?" The trooper stopped writing the ticket and said, "Well, yeah, if that"s what they are called -- I never heard of circle flies." So the farmer said, "Well, circle flies are common on farms. See, they"re called circle flies because they"re almost always found circling around the back end of a horse." The trooper said, "Oh," and went back to writing the ticket. Then after a minute he stopped and said, "Hey, wait a minute-- are you trying to call me a horse"s rear end?" The farmer said, "Oh no, officer. I have too much respect for law enforcement to even think about calling you such a name." The trooper said, "Well, that"s a good thing," and went backto writing the ticket. After a long pause, the farmer said, "Hard to fool them flies, though."
