OT/Forgot my password for windows Vista/Need help

I have this Windows Vista computor that hasn't been used in sometime. Now I forgot my password on the login?
Is there a simple way to retreive the old password or a way to reset it?
Like to thank you for your time and help don't know how long this windows XP going to last.

Can you hit Ctrl-alt-del to bring up a login screen that accepts both userid & password via keyboard??

If so, then try typing in 'administrator' for the userid and nothing for the password. Depending on how it was originally set up, that sometimes will let you in...

I have a Unix "breaker" CD, too, that will allow a person to boot the PC up on Unix and then it has a utility that lets you set any userid's password to something new... But it was fairly complicated to build and create the CD... If you have a techie friend, they might have something similar...

Can you do a install of XP or Win 7 over it? And save you programs. If nothing else works. It would be an improvement over vista in my opinion.

You can start them in safe mode and go into control panel, and then user accounts and change your password or use none.
