First day working my new Massey 583

I posted some time ago about buying a new 583. The deal fell through (wife would"nt approve). My other boss, employer, said if I bought one, he would rent it from me, at a very good rate, with me as the operator, to cut gas pipeline rights-of-way this winter. He is going to end up paying for nearly half of the tractor, kind of as a bonus. Well, local dealer had a 2009, platform, MFWD with a free loader for cheaper than any used one I could find on the "net. Anyway, welded a nice big brushguard on it it went to work mowing today with a 7" bushog. This is the first new tractor I have ever owned. The transmission is very stiff, 3 point arms unloaded stay up even with the controls down! Ergonomics of the station are very nice, the telescoping 3-point and slick sway bars are awesome. It runs the 7 footer without breaking a sweat. I think I"m gonna trade with the other crew and put the batwing behind it. Manual says to work the crap out of it for the first 100 hours, and don"t let it idle for any period of time. Pretty exciting day in Wiggins, Mississippi for a tractor lover!

JB, you're from Wiggins? I used to work for a company out of Poplarville... I'm a long way from there now. Watch out for the wet spots, we sunk alot of stuff on the right-of-ways!

Actually from N. Florida. You are right about the wet spots, and creeks. I've never seen so many creeks in my life! Luckily it's pretty dry, being late fall. I can tell by the vegetation and water lines on trees we are mowing areas that would be impassible in summer. Went to Poplarville yesterday to get a PTO shaft lengthened. Nice people in these parts.

Do you have any pictures? What size machine is that? Also, curious what the price tag is? Been thinking about the future getting a new loader tractor.

Check out the new Case/IH Farmall 95's. 4 Cyl turbo intercooled motor that just sipd fuel.

Gordo

Hello Gordo wife and I were out in SD this fall bird hunting. We stayed at Watertown and went as far west as your capital. Really loved your state. Not many folks compared to Michigan.
Was in De Smet and over to where the big pheasant is near the motel.
Really reallly enjoyed SD.
Where are you located?? If a problem please forget I asked.

So what does a new Massey 583 cost?

When I bought my new Deere compact it was a great feeling, a new tractor..........Way better feeling then a new car that is worthless in 7 years.

Paid $24,099, with loader, big one with universal attachment. No taxes or dealer fees in Florida for Ag use. 4.5% financing for 60 months. It's probably a $30k tractor. 83 engine hp, naturally aspirated Perkins. Nebraska test says 73 at the PTO. Going to sell my Ford 3910, although I love that tractor, and my '69 MF 175 to help pay off the note early. After my second day on it today, the only complaint I have is the gear ratios on the 8 speed aren't ideal for the type of mowing we are doing. Low reverse is like creeping, high reverse is hang on to your hat. I back into alot of creek crossings and other spots. All in all, can't believe some of the muck its gone through today, Obviously no water in the tires from the dealer or I would have been sunk several times today. Love the smell of paint burning off when shes working hard!

Congrats! Need pics!

I take it it has the 8x2 then, odd a fwa wouldn't have the 8x8 box.

I like the simplicity of the newer 500 series....

Figured a cabed 573 2wd with the 12 speed would make a nice haying tractor.
