Well I'm doing it for the last time. My son was kind enough to do the video thing and I really was called a (HAY SEED PLAYER)COUNTRY BUMPKIN LOL. Most hard liner jazz players do know that blue grass is the most music closer to traditional jazz then any other form. It all boils down to EXPRESSION.COLOR.IMAGINATION. FEELING. Thats what makes a great player IMHO.I wanted to Do A CHRISTMAS PIECE FOR THE Y.T. SITE AND OLD ROY AND ALL. Lets hear other players ,as I do know ther has to be others on here. Remember Music isnt competitive but just to be shared .Like tractor problems. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL,AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.

Lou

Thanks for sharing your music with YT. I think it is awesome to hear you play.

Dave

I used to work on B3s. Check the linkage on the volume pedal especially where it fastens to control shaft on the console pre amp. Common problem on these instruments.

Hi Rickie Blue. Hamond man Huh? Had one.played one Jimmy Smith Jimmy Mcgriff style.Works good with Tenor, base, drums Guitar.Loved the power sound. Played an after joint in NewCastle Ind for years, called The Chicken Shack owned by a fellow named Owens, next to the railroad switch yard. Thought that was where Jimmy Smith got the name for his album tune,"BACK AT THE CHICKEN SHACK".NOW won't you please fire it(Your B-3) up and power us a tune . Would like to here others play. Don't hesitate, your among friends. Reguards LOU

Good advice. Had the dumb ask movers jam the base pedals up into the organ and BENT MOST OF THE METAL FINGERS. Then lost the PR 40 cabnet due to a bad outlet on a wall that powered up a meat grinder. Yea , btdt. Bad memories. LOU

Beautiful There Lou !! -- I'll bet that instrument.would sound great on "Silver Bells " too with those multiple voices (HINT)
I see you're getting the rust out of those old fingers already -- good job !!

I'm still having problems with the wiring between my head and fingers --LOL

I would love to get my hands on a B-3 or any other classic organ. I was thinking about building a "leslie" type cabinet to play my guitar through.

Thanks Roy. Silver bells is a great tune for color. But, I was wondering if you would be so kind as to ask others to participate here with their MUSICAL TALENT. You sure have a swell way with folks. Way more then I would ever have. It"s hard to make folks realize that Music ISN"T ment to be thought of by players that "I"M Better then you are". Trouble is ,now a days (rap) hasn"t anything to do with musical talent. OH OH. I"m in hot water, but facts are facts. Never heard any melonic lines from any of em.Now you know the story of just why I gave up on the so called listening audiences. Sure ther is truly some who love music and live to share the beauty with others (all without a price tag attached) so in those cases where that idea still lives, that makes it possible to hope great music returns. Any way I"m off my soap box, and I truly thank you . Warmest reguards!!!!
LOU.

I am amazed at what you guys can do, am only 52 and have 2 fingers not limber enough to do that, keep it up and keep postin I LIKE IT

First of all in your start at this topic you mention competitiveness. I couldn't hold a candle to you or probably anyone that has either done gigs as a living. I admire people like you and Allan ,and I'm sure there are many on this forum that will let some meager string pluckin fellow in there just to jam and have fun.

I have even made it a point when we played as a band to keep it a hobby and not a job.

You sure well remember the times you didn't feel well possibly a cold or headache and you still had to go.

When I lost My brother a few years back---My Nephew (his son) and our Lead guitar player decided to have gig in My Brothers Memory three months after he was gone.

Well we were doing fine , singing and playing all Our songs My brother so much enjoyed.

It came my turn to do a couple and when I stepped up to the mic, I couldn't hear the monitors My nephew was doing harmony singing with me as in the past, I looked at him and he was looking very strange at me as this was not going well my voice broke and I started sweating profusely ,but tried to continue. I could see it in familiar faces in the audience that something terrible was wrong.

I vowed that night to never do that again the guitar has been in that case since then,me contemplating on selling it. The only reason I didn't was the fact My brother gave it to me as a gift awhile back.

It was Allan NE that inspired me to try a little bit with it again as I play along with a few of his recordings I have saved from this forum.
(I thank him for the inspiration) but I have flash backs of that worst time of my life that I still won't go onstage again ever.

Man has said in the past 40 years ago I should have went to Nashville I never had the courage to even try a demo recording to send , I didn't want to go and live like Tommy Cash and order hot water at the restaurant to make soup out of the ketchup even with his name he had a tough time.

Like the saying goes, (If ya can't run with the Big Dogs stay on the porch) So back porch pickin it is and anybody is welcome to come over and Jam.
I don't and wont compete I just like to have fun.

Roy , Thank you for your post. I do have a lot of thoughts about your not wanting to go before a live auduence again. My questions(Note I said questions)to you would be about your feelings when you and your brothere had the band.Remember the feelings you had about bringiong the music to the folks? How they smiled and applauded your efforts?Wanting more of your music? well there in lies the awnser to why you shouldn't give up on playing again. Not worth the mental anguish of self defeat to bring one down on life in general. Now in my case, the selection of music I involved my life with is extreemly limited in acceptance. I chose the traditional jazz music as it was the very best avenue for my feelings to be performed on the keyboard. Not to many folks really understand the music I play, and I don't expect em to understand my performance in selection in music. There for I do have a true legitimate reason/reasons for folding up my tent and sneaking away into the darkness. Not so with you and your selection of music. It's different and more acceptable then my avenue of music (by Choice).I'm sure that if your brother was here, he would agree with me on my assesment. I'm sorry for the loss you incured by his passing
buttttttttttttt.if he were here he would tell you to keep the faith he was part of and play the music again for the people who has your musical feelings. NOW PAARD, I'M DONE With MY analysis of every thing that music has done for me. I do love it so. Hope you and yours has a great Christmas and GOD BLESS. Warmest Reguards LOU
P.S MUSIC AND TRACATORS GOES TOGETHER LIKE HAND AND GLOVE. BOTH REQUIARE A LOT OF TENDER CARE AND UPKEEP TO BRING PLEASURE AND PROMISE.

I thank you for the encouraging words Lou.

Music will only Die if ya let it. although still several Bluegrass festivals are keeping that music in this decade.

Classical, Jazz, Blues, prior to the 40's
Was the basis for what we call music today and I do still Like to hear Old BB King,Louis Armstrong for Blues.

I agree Heavy Metal, Rap, and those styles are just glorified screaming, or rambling and Heavy Metal in Just a test to see if ya blow out the speakers.

And Kieth Jarret , Herbie Hancock for your style of playing.

The only place now it has been kept alive is like Jay Leno Band, Some early shows as a backdrop, fill in, but it's still alive.

Now they have come up with another style called "Techno" bet you you wont last more than 3 min into this 14.25 min song.
I made it to 4 min

you asked for it Lou, I might dust off the harmonica and torture your ears with a Christmas carol!!! Keep your hands free you might have to cover your ears some!

If you guys need a singer, I sing well! I need to learn one more song though, called "Far Far Away" Evertime I start singing around people they always ask me to sing it. I need to learn that song. Any help would be appreciated! LOL Seriously I have enjoyed all you videos of your fine talents. Mike

ROY.DEAR LORD,what is that NOISE????????????? I didn't make it as long as you did. Strickly torture. My friend who passed away several years ago (aniother piano player) use to say "IF IT SMELLS,IT SELLS" Now you see what I mean. My music isn"t any small part of that,EVER. Yours neither .!!!!!.My favorite piano player(who was the Master of the instrument)was OSCAR PETERSON. Next in line was Earl Garner, followed by GEORGE SHEARING.Now there is a gal (DIANA KRALL) who is absolutely (sp) the best there is now. I can venture to say if you pool a 100 folks, hardly any have listened to her . Any way ,I still stand by my words to you. You do have talent. I notice Larry is going to play for us. GREAT . Wanting to hear his Christmas renditions. Bet that too will be first Chair. Keep on Making MUSIC. Warmest reguards LOU.

LArry,I will keep my hands at the ready for aplause, and not over my ears as you suggested. There is Talent every where one looks and listens. I do so enjoy peoples HONEST ENDEAVORS,and I never compaire artist against artist. True I do have favorite players I use to listen to on a regular basis when I was deeply involved in the field, but now thats long ago and far away. Yep got a song title in there lol.Any way we will be listening for you. Reguards LOU.

Roy,

Just read this post. I swear it was like I was listening to myself (And, believe me, this is not good!). :>)

Anyway, you're lettin' your own mind stand in your way.

Your brother just died three months ago, you're singing some of his favorite songs and your voice cracks, you land in the wrong key, whatever, you have a train wreck?

Let's think about this for a minute.

By the very fact that you are a musician means that you have a sensitive nature (just the way it is). This ‘sensitivity’ is getting the best of you.

Anything other than that happening under those circumstances would have been totally unnatural.

I think ya better get the heck off that porch and back in front of people where you belong. :>)

Allan

I listen to and really like Diana Krall. A couple of other musicians who deserve mention, even if you don't like their music are Elton John and Billy Joel as far as piano playing ability. Both are phenomenal on the piano.
Another Canadian artist is Burton Cummings, again probably not your musical taste but he can really slam out a tune on the keys.

You can straighten the metal pushers by hand. Pull the pedal board away from the console and stand it on end. Sight down the pushers from right and left side using a board. This will get them all in line. If you played in New Castle you should be familiar with the white custom Hammond with lighted keyboards at the Skyline in Muncie. I was good friends with the owner. I started my career in 1982 at the Muncie Music Center.

Todd. Thanks for the post. Ya just gotta remember I'm 75 years young lol. been a longggg time back since I played there. You would probably remember Keith & Betty Sylvester(duo-act - man & wife,Tenor player and Hammond organ) who worked Muncie most of the time. Orens Chicken Shack was not my claim to fame lol. Extra Money . A mans gotta do what a man gotta do. Wife 5 children need income. I still have dreams of torture playing some of the clubs i.e Braggs in Muncie, etc, I would NEVER recommend to any one wanting fame in the music business to do road work unless they would be a glutton for punishment. In My mentioning names of musicians I admire (the Billy Joel-Barry Manilow-) now remember I'm forgetfull of gooderns lol. The real great feelimg for me was the concert at Ball State with John Maheegan back in the 60's where respect for the players was tantamount. Loved the response. Wish I could do that over along with the New Orleans Jazz festival 1991 when My son took me down to Play. Met a lot of good Musicians (real people)including Some of the Harry Connicks guys, Steve Allen and former players from Duke Ellingtons band along with old band members from Count Bassie, even a guy from Australia (Frank GOW) who came for the festival. Oh Well WHO Cares?? I did at the time. Not now. I do admire players who Present their music before the public as people who want to contribute in their way to giving pleasure to the listeners and DANCERS. I hope Old Roy is reading this. He does have the ability to perform but like Alan from Neb says. It's time for him to get up and do it some more, while there is time left. Any way Another chapter (YEA RIGHTTTTTTTTT) in the life of a washed up Piano Player. Come on Guys, Share your Muisic.ITS CHRISTMAS TIME AND Y.T is kind enough to allow it to happen. Reguards LOU.

I knew Keith and Betty and was able to hear their act after they bought the Lowery MX1. They were really good at their craft. My mother and father knew them well. Billy Joel is also one of my all time favorites.
