Cold here this morning, 2degrees

Stoked the fire up this morning so the kiddies would be warm when they woke up. Sure felt good, didn't want to go outside when it's 2 degrees... I must have the ugliest firewood in the world. Mismatched this and that, crooks, bows or whatever. But like Dad says, it all burns. Getting into a bunch of good ash, mulberry and oak now that we cut a couple years ago.

Its a balmy 9F here this morning. Heading out to feed cattle. Just checked the forecast and they are talking about a winter storm with several inches of snow this weekend followed by sub zero temps. Winter time in Illinois!

[It is amazing I’m sitting here thinking how I don’t want to head to the shop yet to build the fire because it is cold here in south GA. Then I read this post and suddenly + 22 isn’t cold at all. Have a nice day guys and If it gets real unbearable stop by here on your way south and the fire will be going and the coffee on

I've always thought of cold as a relative thing. This morning it was 44F in Miami. I'll bet those people thought that was cold. It was minus 38 in Fort Yukon, Alaska. I really couldn't tell you if those folks up there thought that was "cold" or not. It was minus 19 in International Falls, MN. Perfectly normal.

You're dad was right, regardless of appearance it burns and gives off heat.

We burn a lot of "ugly" pieces, too.

Dutchwest XL I believe. It's been a really good stove. Before we had kids we heated the house with it 100% for several years. Now it gets run during the day for sure and depending on how cold at night, sometimes then. I just can't get my kids bedrooms warm enough with the wood stove when it's really cold. Think the catalyst needs changed after 8+yrs of fairly strong use? Not sure how often you're supposed to do that. I bought the fan for it when it was new, but it works fine without it.

What's the wood of choice in GA? I always thought it was funny that my uncle burned some kind of pine in his house in Alb., NM. You just burn what you have available. We're pretty lucky around here, plenty of good trees and always fencerows to clear, ice storms take their toll or our business generates plenty.

Looks like mine inside too. I just did the annual maintenance on mine a couple weeks ago. Took a look at the catalytic after 3 solid years of use. Looks new. You may be fine after 8 - gives me some hope as last time I replaced on in a different unit it was around $180.

18 degrees F here in central NY, and about 14" of snow. We've been getting a slow lake-effect snow-storm for three days now.

As of last night, Randolph, NY had four feet of snow drop. Seems they're getting lake-effect from Lake Erie, whereas our's is from Lake Ontario.

We only had 36F here in East Tx. this morning.
About normal for us.But we did have med. 20 s a few days ago. Up s & down like everybody else.

It was 20°F this morning in NE MD. Suppose to drop in the teens tonight. Hal
PS: I saw the 4-foot of snow in NY on NBC news last night. We had a pretty good snow last Feb.

Been pretty nice here in SE AZ. Lows in the thirties and record highs during the day, high 70's. Been clearing about 1/2 acre of mesquite and junk to extend my yard and move my fence. I have worked in Wisconsin, Colorado,Utah, Montana, Alaska, and Chili during the winter. Don't want anymore of that. I'll stay here.

Pretty normal here, 40's and low 50's, and raining.

I always like to have some ugly firewood- feels good to burn it, like you're getting rid of it so it won't sully your wood pile any more.

It was 2° this morning here in south west WI.
I have an appointment for a physical today and maybe I will have to bend over. Yikes!)

It was 21 here in north Mississippi this morning, suppose to be 15 by sunday night, pretty cold to me in this south. Paul

I had 12 brrrlow when I got to the shop at 7 this morning. Being in a valley helps keep the wind out but the flip side is is is often 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding area.

Thanks for the heads up, usually the storms you get out there head toward us at some point or another, a few days later. sometimes... lol
