Has anyone used Efco brand saws? are they decent quality? how are they for noise and vibration as compared to pro-grade stihl or huskys? Any info and advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

If you mean Echo. They are comparable to Husvarna and Sthil. I never heard of Efco. If that is what you mean. I would be skeptical. probably an effort to play on Echo's reputation

Nope, EFCO - I'm told its itallian, used to be called olympic. I've boon googling reviews and so far they seem positive.

Pretty good saws from what I've seen and used of them but they are a tad heavy for the power they produce.

But unless your using it all day everyday as I do from time to time then that shouldn't be a big deal.

Efco is a good mid to upper quality saw. They built chains saws for John Deere the last few years. They are Italian built.

I had one when they were badged Olympic . I bought it 20 yrs. ago . Went to Sthil dealer to get a mid size saw and he told me the saws I was looking at would not last like a Olympic as they were all made as pro saws . I was selling alot of wood the first 10 yrs. of its life . He gave me a 029 sthil to use while he ordered my new saw and it ran and cut good but could not hold a candle to that olympic of comparable size . It just gave it up last winter after cutting lots and lots of wood every yr. All I can say is they used to make a real good saw dont know about now . I went out and found me a good used olympic to replace it to go along with my big Jonsered . They are alittle heavyer than others but they have more metal and less plastic in them .

They are a good saw on some modles. 70 cc and up are heavy and lack speed/power They suffer from name recognition. Trouble selling them is some are more money than a husky etc so its a hard sell.

I've got three now, with "John Deere" names on them. CS56 models. I absolutely love them. Very rugged, and if you buy right - you'll get much more saw for the dollar then you'll ever get from Stihl. Even if paying full retail, right now you'll get more for your money from Efco and Dolmar, then from Stihl.

Any recent Efco that's 56 ccs or bigger is a pro-saw. Efco is one of the most popular pro-saws in Italy and a few other regions in Europe. They used to market some versions as "Olympyk" but got sued by the Olympics Committee and dropped the name. Now sold as Efco or Oleo-Mac.

When Deere quit putting their brand-name on saws last year, many dealers were selling CS56 saws for less then $300 - with a 20" bar. Metal crankcase, full ball bearing mains, metal bar cover, compression release, lifetime warranty on ignition, 2 year complete saw warranty, etc. And, Deere parts support.

The only modern Stihl equivalent to the Deere CS56/Efco 156 is the MS 290.

The Efco has a better power-to-weight ratio and makes more power at lower RPMs, a decompression valve, and MORE metal in it, instead of plastic. The Efco also has a much better warrantee. Also, Efco, Deere, Dolmar, Makita - all offer free complete parts-breakdowns on-line so a person can see what is inside a saw before buying. With many models, Stihl does not.

Efco/Deere 156 or CS56, 56.5 ccs, 4.1 horse @ 9000 RPM, 12.1 lbs. Pro saw.

Stihl MS290 , 56.5 ccs, 3.8 horse, 13 lbs. NOT a pro saw.

I checked my parts-breakdowns. The Efcos are pro-saws starting at 45 ccs and up. Those that are smaller then 45 ccs are the mostly-plastic "homeowner" saws.

got CS56 John Deere saw with 20 inch bar shipped to door for $250.00, last one that dealer had :(
ran 4 tanks of gas thru it, not broke in yet, I like it!!!! Replaced 10 year old Poulan Pro no comparison, although I know old PP was not much of saw anyway Mark

The EFCO is an Italian saw (Italy is very strong in the realm of small engines); Echo doesn't even compare. I have the 165 with 24" bar. It's fantastic and will tackle any job! Hard to find in Canada despite a regional distributor in Quebec; got mine from www.baileysonline.com. The only complaint: it's set to run lean because of the EPA; I'm trying to figure out how to remove the limiter caps so I can make the air-to-fuel mix richer. Go to www.arboristsite.com, search Efco and Efco 152, fantastic info.

Stihl 029/MS290 is the cheap "Farm Boss" saw.

A Stihl 026/MS260 will cut just as fast and is lighter.

If your comments on here were a claim that you know anything about chainsaws then Your just a fwckin idiot! Please don't open your mouth unless you know what your talking about. Efco has some of the best pro saws you can buy. Dumb a55!

A little bit of history Efco as stated use to be named Olympik. Italian built good quality 5 million dollar company they let the saws speak for themselves no need to advertise if you have a solid quality product backed by 5 year warranty. Customer service is amazing call them up you will get an answer by a live person. Recommend giving it a try test one out if your skeptical .
