Wife and I were at this location in 2008...had us a nice boat ride, too!!

It is really quite a "simple" piece of machinery to see in operation...and I did put my "farmer eyes" on it!!

Pretty amazing. The Wikipedia article below says the motors to operate it total 30 horsepower and it only takes 1.5 kilowatt-hours to cycle the wheel.

I was there to and had to walk ahead of the car with one foot up against the curb while holding up a lantern to keep from running the car off the road.

Pretty neat! Got something the same principal here in germany where the barges drive into this big tank likme a swimming pool, gate closes behind them and the whole tub is lifted/lowered to continue on.
