another tire question

R-1 tires are designed for AG use. The have aggressive cleats that bite the ground well to provide good traction on loose groound. They will not ride or wear as well as will R-4 tires.

R-4 tires are designed for light to moderate industrial applications, e.g., backhoes. They have more cleats that are closer together providing more rubber in contact with the ground. The increased rubber contact with the surface provides a smooth ride and much longer wear, especially on hard surfaces such as concrete, at the expense of less traction on dirt. They are also somewhat more puncture resistant.

Many folks prefer R-4 tires on CUTS used for mowing as the increased rubber contact and less aggressive cleats are less damaging to turf, though much more so than turf tires.

I was told that R4 will give you better traction in reverse than R1 but not as good going forward as R1 will
