M4900 Kubota locked in fwd & Rev???

I have a M4900 Kubota that I backed up and put in forward and it's engaging fwd & rev at the same time. It's a synchronized shuttle shift. I've checked linkage and everything I can see appears to be moving. It has a cab so view of linkage is limited. It backs up just fine just won't move fwd but loads engine when placed in fwd. It stays in reverse at all 3 shift locations (F-N-R). Any ideas as local Kubota service manager can't even give a clue or labor cost!!!!!!!!! Thanks for any ideas,Jim

That the 8x8 mechanical shuttle? Basically the same transmisssion as the Ford 30 series used?
If it's the same one... then you likely have shuttle syncro that crapped out. The bad news is... the shuttle syncro is the first bittie piece that goes in during assmebly... from the rear. So... you get to remove the transmission, remove the rails and forks, remove the front housings, stand it on the clutch housing face and start pulling the rear housing off... then extract the mainshaft, drop the countershaft... and then you get to remove the 2000 dollar syncro. I've had one apart twice in my 3930... IIRC it was about 40 hours work to remove the transmission, disassemble, repair, reshim and then reinstall... SOmeone that was more familiar and was working in a well equipped shop could probably do that a bunch quicker than I did... and mabey the Kubota is easier to split open... but this one had a full loader frame and various other complicating factors.

According to the parts schematic the reverser is located behind the traction clutch in the bell housing. I can't figure out why it's always in reverse( in R & N) until I shift control lever to fwd then it loads engine while slowly letting clutch pedal out. Then shift to "N" and it will back up.. It will also load engine in fwd with both range & gear selector in N. I can't see how. Thanks,Jim

I'd post this over on the Kubota forum @ tractorbynet.com. Lots of good info there, by folks who have & work on their botas.
