Thank you for the great advise. I will try it this spring with a soil test. Not just for hunting, but the DNR here has all but eliminated the population.Want to have healthy deer if possible. Thanks again Rick P

How do I get in touch with the Wisconsin DNR to find out how they eliminated the deer population? We've been trying it here for a WHOLE LOT of years with no luck!
While they're at it,they can take out the d@mned sandhill cranes, turkeys and geese too!

Trust me, they haven't eliminated the deer herd. There are fewer around than a few yrars ago, though. The gun season, which just ended took down 102,000 bucks and, I forgot, 160,000 does, or so. The best things to thin down turkeys are foxes and coyotes. I tell my turkey hunters to come out and hunt foxes and coyotes if they want to get their turkeys back.

I like the birds, the deer, not so much. We have had that hemorhagic fever here, cut the deer population by 90% in one year. Left lots of dead deer lying around last summer.

the deer in missouri and kansas are so plentiful-- you can get two tags-- "any deer" and "antlerless" the poplulation is so large that they are trying to control it by taking does out. when i was a kid- (im 61) seeing a deer was really special-- now i think i could have 6-8 more cows on the farm if the deer werent there. and turkeys--i dont remember seeing a wild one until i was in my 30's. obviously the Mo DNR and Ks are doing something different and i think right.

I've got a couple of neighbors here who swear right up and down there aren't any deer around too. They go out and sit in one spot in the woods for a day or two and since none walk by,they think that's representative of the entire herd. I get so p!ssed off hearing their stupidity I've gotten right in their faces and asked them if they expect the d@mned deer to sit in the bar and drink with them or come right up and eat out of their trash cans?!

Here in Michigan you can take 2 bucks for the season and up to 5 does a day. Between archery, regular gun and muzzle loading, the season runs 3 months and we still can't even make a dent in them.

It's getting to where the birds do more damage than the deer, and that's saying a lot! The cranes go right down the rows as soon as the corn pops up and pull it right out of the ground and eat the seed. Whatever gets past them, the turkeys and geese keep it chewed down short til the deer move in.
A guy just south of town here said he was planting corn one time and the cranes came in,put their beaks right down horizontal in the seed furrow and went along eating the seed from right underground.

To tell the truth here in Missouri you can buy as many ahtlerless tags as you have the money for. You can only buy/have one buck tag for gun and one for bow maybe 2 I would have to go check what I have for bow to be sure if it is only one or not but I think it is. But as far as having a lot ya thee probably out there but this year has been a very bad year for deer hunting. Most years by now I have 3 or 4 of them but this year I have only one so far and only a few days left of gun season

Has the disease problem in Wisc been contained just havent heard. They were worried about them crossing the Miss river in the winter and getting in NE IOWA.
