Well we got guitars, and banjo pickers.
Any Fiddle, accordion, dulcimer,Mandolin, piano, or wind instrument players out there?

I can play the fiddle to some extent, although I am not as reliable as I hope to be someday. I can play simple tunes on the accordion but nothing fancy. I learned to play the harmonica and soprano and tenor recorders at a young age and can still do it and I build but do not play mountain and hammered dulcimers, harps and so far one mandolin. Here's a link to a couple of tunes I tried to play on my (then) new cherry banjo.

i play harmonica, but not as good as the guy that was posted on here last week. Iplay at the nursing home when Ivisit my mom, the old people like it.

What do you mean tried? Sounded very good to me. Reminded me of my Grand Father deep in the hills of central Kentucky when I would come to visit on the train back right after the second world war. After supper he would turn on the battery operated radio for a while and then after about a 1/2 hour of radio he would get his Banjo out and play until bed time. I have attached a picture of my Grand Parents taken about 1910 right after they were married. His Banjo went every where with him. He passed on in 1951.

I think that sounded great too.

Thee is a big difference in how sound is accumulated. I know it would have sounded better in person.

banjo was made as an acoustic instrument although through electronics of today have so many sound variables.

I really don't understand them .. I love to hear them though.

I do see some that are backless and others have a back . What is the reasoning , or difference ? maybe a better directive volume ?

I and My brother used to do that such a warm welcome feeling as you see the residents tapping their feet and mouthing the words of songs of their era.

sounded really good zach

i play the piano and am incredibly thankful that my mom made me study for all those years, theres nothing like picking up piece of sheet music or hearing something on the radio and sitting down and playing it. when i find the time to get my pipes out i can usually skurl out a recognizable tune...every now and again i get together with a buddy who played in a pipe band in college, he covers up my mis-notes and together we don't sound half bad

It's interesting that you posted this thread...Every year I find that around this time is when I really tend to play a lot more than usual...right when the whether turns and the sun decides to leave early everyday.

I can tap my foot and hum but not always to the same beat . Gets real scary when I throw in some finger snapping too .

sure does Dave!! Ever hear of the Nashville Brass ?

Sound good with a 5 string and guitars

although other songs they did was better I thought you'ld enjoy these

Yes, and Red River Valley , and "You Are My Sunshine" are good ones too.

Along with a few old time Gospel we threw in between.

Always closed with "Good Night Irene"

my dad plays the guitar, dobro and pedal steel guitar. Someday, eventually, I hope he learns to play something cool like an electric- ANYthing...

Sometimes at night, when I'm sleepin good and havin a good dream, I can remember how to play the piano, yet better than I was ever able to when my folks were makin me take lessons as a kid.
Never was blessed with it, my brother can pick up anything and play it.
Makes me almost wanna cry.
And trust me, you don't wanna hear my singing, neither.

Thank God for you all that can play, I really enjoy listening.

That make any sense at all???

Nice picture John. Do you know what happened to your grandpa's banjo? It would be a fine family keepsake.

Didn"t see bass in there. But if you need one.... I"m always on call.
Forewarned it"s a package deal with a great sax man - my dad. Been in the same groups/sharing the stage now for over 20 years.
And beginning this year, my 10 yr old on the drums. Been at it since he was 2. Been running songs on stage with the band this year.
Poor guy"s tripping in his dad"s footsteps...

Heck I didn't mean to let ya out --- I meant anything from wash tubs to wash boards and anything in between

Left out? nah. We're bottom dwellers!
You've heard the old joke - how do you get a bass player off your porch?
Pay him for the pizza.

I don't know about that ... If it weren't for the bass, and the drums the rhythm guys couldn't direct the lead.

One of my old time favorites although I can do a little cording on one . I did have the Honor to meet this lady many years ago at a local park that had stars in every weekend.
Love her style

My cousin has it and plays it regularly at different events, mostly bluegrass gatherings around the Ky/Tenn area. It has been refurbished several times but still sounds good.It is the one in the picture.

I agree,

MOST important is that drummer, second is the bass riding/complimenting his groove.

Without those guys, the whole house of cards comes tumblin' down.

If ya don't believe it, just try getting in front of a bad (insert the word boom-chuck) drummer sometime. It'll make a grown man cry. :>)

Glad it stayed in the family. It's heartbreaking to see something like that go at an auction.

Fiddle and Piano here. In spite of my inability, I have some students too. Mostly Scottish and Old Tyme tunes. Good to see interest among the young people.
