My restored Cub is losing hydralic oil with no oil showing up outside the resevoir. The engine oil was a quart too full when I last checked. Is it possible for the hydralic oil to leak into the oil pan? The hydralic control does not work smoothly but moves in jerks. Is this normal or could it be due to moisture in the fluid?

Sounds like the pump seal is due for replacement. Air in the system will cause the jerkiness in the hydralic.

Yes that is a common problem with the hyd. on Cubs, Super A, C and Super C. Not that hard to do but the shaft may be scored or worn. Had to replace pump (about $500) on Super C

Check the dip stick you will find that the motor is gaining oil.

I had it happen , the pump seals are bad.

Make sure when you rebulid it that the nut that holds the drive gear is tight with thread lock. It can fall and end up in the oil pan , then the gear comes off........

make sure you get the number off the pump so you can get the right seal repair kit.

The drive gear on your hyd pump is exposed to the oil system, hense your oil level gaining due to a leaking pump seal.
