There is a BCat T190 Track skid steer for sale locally. Are tracks better or worse than tire models? Any issure with a T190 Bobcat?
Thanks

Tracked machines are very expensive to maintain and operate. Plan on putting away $25/hr just for eventual track and undercarraige replacement, that's not including any other regular machine maintenance.

Yes, I should have specified tracked skidloaders. 90% of the time a wheeled machine will do the job just fine, tracks are meant for low ground pressure application and flotation. You see a lot of concrete crews and landscapers using them, but they have lots of money to burn and really shouldn't be allowed to operate heavy machinery anyway. Same with farmers, can't really think of an application where they could use one efficiently, maybe a rice or cranberry or other specialty farm, could be wrong though.

Money to burn? Shouldn't be operating machinery? Well, some do make good money--the landscaping company I have an interest in does quite well--but they use tracks for a reason.

Shouldn't operate machinery? My company puts over 1000 hrs annually on each tracked machine.

We use all T-190's.

They are certainly not a very good all purpose farm machine, especially in areas with winter. My farm operation uses all S-205's.

Depends on what & where your going to use it. Had a T200 now have a T320 plus two wheel machines before them. For grade work dirt sand or rock tracks are the only way to go can work many days that wheel machine would set in the shed. For me tracks are the only way to go , there usefullnes out weighs the extra cost many times over.

Tracks are bad if you have stumps or big rocks and other stuff that will cut them. Tracks are way better in sand and mud but for general use, tires work just fine and are way cheaper to replace or repair. Tracks give better flotation and traction for the same size machine. A lot more maintenance with tracks though. Dave

We had two Bobcats at work, T300 and a S250. We used them side by side cleaning lots when it was muddy or snow covered. The track machine has less ground pressure and would sit on top of the mud or snow and spin, it would go anywhere if you weren't trying to push anything. The S250 had steel tracks over the tires, you couldn't stop it, snow, mud, you would run out of motor before you lost traction. When I get a skid loader it'll be a tire unit with a good set of steel tracks.

They will get around better in most conditions. But you have to be carefull around rocks,or sharp objects so you don;t cut a track, or operation on concrete which wears them quickly. You also have to try and clean them if you use it in mud or snow in freezing conditions, they will freeze up solid if left set over night dirty.
A set of tracks will last longer than a set of tires under most conditions, but you are looking at $2500- $4000 for replacements(pair)compared to 4 tires at around $600. Along with the tracks there are alot more wear items to consider, bearings in the rollers and idlers, sprocket wear, and the rubber covering on the rollers, all which wear out and need replacement. My tracked machine costs me alittle over $4 a running hour more in maintenance than the ones on tires.
A rubber tired machine will probably be more suited to your needs and if you need the extra traction, go with a set of over the tire tracks.

A set of tracks will run 1000-1500 hours. All the other under carraige parts will last about 2-3000 hours. Should at very least change drive sprockets when changing tracks. Tracks from Bobcat for a T190 will run $3600 for the pair. Aftermarket tracks will run about 1200-1800 depending on the dealer and quality.

The track machine is great around the farm, I have used a T190 and a T250 around here a lot and they are much more stable than the wheel machine. Lifting capacity is much greater also, a T190 will easily outlift a S205 by several hundred pounds.

I have used them pushing snow, and they even do that great, but you do need to learn how to run one in the snow, it is a learning curve.

If the T190 is priced right, according to undercarraige condition, I would say you would love it.
