86 GMC Sierra steering column

Automatic transmission shift lever does not spring back forward after I select a gear. In other words it just flops to and fro in its range of motion, I"m sure there is a spring off but how and where do I go about getting to it?

Drive out the pin where the lever pivots so the lever can be removed for access to the spring.

(I've got a new spring on the shelf I ordered in for a guy who never came back for it.)
