Been helping my brothers put till in { like most others around here in Iowa. }
Just thought I would share how they do it .. put in 9000 ft in a day and 1/2 ... there ground is rolling so fall is not a problem .. there is a gauge on the plow , to help keep the depth ..
been putting it in at 3 1/2 ft to 4 ft deep ..been going around 2 mph ... could go faster .... put if you hook a rock it could be bad ...
Never seen anything like this put works GREAT ..
hope you enjoy the pictures ..

Tile is the cheapest hired man you can have to get a good crop. Works 24/7 when you need help, and always there Monday morning. Most of the Corn Belt gets its productivity from that worthwhile practice.

Is the pipe perforated? If so, what keeps the soil from plugging it?

Looks like it's 4". It's got slits in it that lets the water in, but not the soil. Same stuff you can buy at Lowes or Menards, just longer rolls.

Nice pictures. Are you guys on clay soil? Here in Eastern NY Im on clay, so that deal you have there would work great for some drainage. Water just lays on top of the ground here. Cant go on it now with a tractor or youll make ruts, gotta wait until the ground freezes now. LOL, J

We put ours in with a wheel machine. I would like to lay a few thousand feet before the weather closes in but it's pretty tacky right now. We really like to see it somewhat dry if possible before we dig. I envy you as far as not having to worry about grade we have to shoot just about everything with a transit.

If you look at the one picture .. where the tile is in the bottom .. look at the sides ... some places theres a good layer of black dirt and other places it's mostly clay ...
if you look at the picture where it's beening put in the tractor is spinning a little .. had an inch of rain the day before ..

That is what I was doing { like you } with a ditcher type ... fixing bad tile that was plug or something ... slow going but that has to be done too ...
