White Tractoe Engine Serials No.'s

Does anyone know when The 2-135 changed from a Hercules to Cummins engine? If so did they start over in the serials.
I just purchased one with the engine ser no of 4013186. Shows D5000X1-135. The tractor is a 1979.
Previous owner said engine had been changed to a Cummins in 1985.

I don't think the 2-135s had a Cummins did they? Unless yours was changed. The ones with a factory Cummins would have been a WorkHorse 140 I believe. My 82 has a 478 Hercules,like I'm pretty sure they all did.

Do you mean that your tractor was changed??? Or when White changed the line over to Cummins? The Cummins engines where not factory installed until 1987 staring with the 125 and 145s. They did make a kit to install the Cummins motor into the older tractors. That Hercules motor was not too good of one and very expensive to repair. A factory overhaul kit cost Five grand in 1985. I did one for a friend. Plus at that time no after market company supplied one.
