Hey folks,
thinking about the tractor in the link. 1972 with 8250 hours. Local dealers are Case/IH and Fendt but new parts are plentiful and very reasonable (compared to IHC, JD, and Fendt of the era). Picked up a hay feeder on the weekend and the guy had a 2000 that they bought new with 10k hours. Said the major repairs on it was frt end (king pin?) bushings and a couple regulators and a battery. The ad for this one says "motor smokes". Looking at 2 of the pictures you can see white/grey smoke. I know this is a wide open question, but how major could that be (best/worst case)?

Looking pretty hard at this one also and really liking the FEL: 1966 3000 (hours unknown)

Both are the same money.... Opinions?

Those Ford utility tractors are good and tough. I would say either one would work. I think you would like them better that the IH you have now. The Fords are more user friendly.

Of course Fords are best. I can't imagine one not smoking with that many hours. All it means is a little less power, compression, oil pressure, but nothing to mean imminent major problems.

In your area the 4100 with the cab would be my choice it has better back tires on it .

I can see wanting the one with the FEL on it too I like the quick attach system it has.

For less than a good horse ya could have both of them <}8>)

My little red tractor is just fine and will be staying here, just could use the extra HP. The Ford's, when you find one close, have the others beat in price (both upfront and upkeep) because people just don't know them. Always looking, just waiting on the right price.

Dave ,Really don"t fault you for wanting more H.p Lots of time it"s needed to pull the needed attatchments .You stated that having some place to park the 2nd tractor would be a problem ,so I was wondering if the neighbors had any room to house the I.H.just in case you found a bigger tractor? Hope you find a G.P (general purpose) tractor that will fit your needs. Keep looking pal. One will show up. Reguards LOU.
