Tractor work after having shingles.

OT Have not been able to work on latest project for a month because I have shingles, very painful. Any one else had them? What did you do for the pain? How long did they last?

A friend just had it and sought medical help immediately but it still lasted 6 months. There is a shot to prevent the Shingles but it must be administered BEFORE contracting shingles and it costs about $200. People who have had chicken pox when young want to get the shot.

I had them but never stopped working however there were times I wanted to but figured it would be worse not doing somethig. There were times when they would come on and I'm sure I looked, well let's just say it was no fun. A bad experience that will make you stay away from any kid with Chickenpox.

Have had them a couple of times , NOT good, used capzasin, HOT stuff !! and got the shot also , been a couple of years now , and nothing came back , so far

I had them on the right side of my face. Had me out of commission for a few days. Had some perscription meds for them but do not remember what it was. Had to have my vision checked because having them on your face can affect the eye.
Only had them once so far and wouldn't wish them on anyone!!!

I had them last winter around my midsection. It a form of chicken pow. After you gave pox the virus hibernates inyour lower back. Most people only have shingle once.

I broke the blisters and washed the ares then put on medicated foot powder to keep it dry. I had a mild case some irritation for a coupl months but no real pain . Docter said I probably did the right thing.

I had 'em on my right side (sorta under my arm) a few years ago... it wasn't the skin irritation that got me... it was the nerve "damage" that occurred around my arm and shoulder. Made it really difficult to even raise my right arm above my head. I still went to work & everything, just moved a bit slower. If I remember, the worst was over in 6 - 8 weeks. I have had absolutely no lingering effects, although I understand that in some people, it can come back. Hoping it doesn't! ...D

My wife came down with it during cancer treatments..Been 5 years now..Hers was in her left side of her jaw , ear and brain.. She still has problems with jaw and memory.. Feels like scalded 24-7..She takes 400 mg. Nerotin and 37.5 - 325mg. Ultracet..Might not ever get rid of it so she's told...

I had a mild case last winter. I just took ibuprofen and that was good enough for me but like I said mine was mild and I'm still fairly young so that helped.

I had to stop work but that was because I work at a school and they didn't want me there potentially exposing kids who had not had chickenpox.

I ended up working out side most of the time I was off payed work. What I found would happen is I could do anything I wanted but then when I stopped I would get sore. The way it fouls up your nerves is really odd.

I've had them going on 2 yrs now. They were almost unbearable for about 2 months. Dr. gave me something but can't re3member what. It kinda worked. It's not so bad anymore but still wish they would go away.

A year ago I had pain in back and around ribcage on right side . Hurt like hell, especially at night. Woke up in middle of night hurting so bad I about cried. Could not get comfortable in hardly any position. Pain was bearable during day when I was constantly in motion (dairy farm ). Thought it was spine/back problem. Went to chiropractor, but no relief. Went to M. D. about it. Removed my shirt for exam and I told the doctor that I thought I had some insect bites on my side. She saw them and said that the row of small bumps/sores were classic example of shingles. Virus infects the nerves , hence the pain. The virus erupts through the skin at nerve endings causing the sores. She prescribed some moderate strength pain meds for relief and sleep aid. They were not much effective. OTC Ibuprofen did more good. Worst daytime pain was when a cow swung her tail and struck me directly on the ribcage. AAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!! Toughed it out for several weeks. No lingering effects.

wife got them after back surgery...she now takes 2700mg. of Neurontin ,[3]10/500mg.Lorcet & 60mg. of Methadone daily to control the pain...singles NEVER go away they just go in remission if you are lucky & can come back at any time...wife is 55 & mostly sleeps all the time...at 62 I have to work [2] jobs just to cover medical bills...good luck ..Kent

I had them for about one month several years ago and wow was it painful. Strongest aspirin wouldn't touch the pain. I still have a dead spot where they originated. Doc said dead spot (no feeling) probably wouldn't go away. So far he's right.
