Mounted picker or 2 row pull

We have a NI 325 picker but found a NI mounted picker on a Farmall 560. The picker has all the original decals and paint. My question is, would this be an upgrade. Our 325 works great, but a 12 roller husking bed would be a benefit, our 325 has an 8 and gets overwhelmed in a good field.
Thanks

smaller farm mounted is nice to save knocking down corn to open up mounting is a pain Is it possible to decicade one tractor to just picker, leaving on year around??

First question? Are you now on 30" rows or 40" rows? That pull type picker without knowing complete model could be either a narrow row picker for 30" rows or a wide row picker made for 40" rows? The Mounted picker is able to be used only on 40" rows as on 30" the tires would be running on the outside of the row on each side of what you are trying to pick even if you could get those 2 rows you are trying to pick to bend enough to go thru the snapping rolls without breaking off and plugging everything up. NOW IF YOU ARE CURENTLY ON 40" rows the mounted pickers work great but are very hard to mount and have to be with mounts specificaly for each and every model tractor so if it came off a different model tractor than what you currently have then good luck finding the mounts. That said if you could find a tractor exactly like it came off of to permantly mount and never take off they do a real nice job but you have to be more carefull about catching the tractor-picker on fire and burning completely up. Also with the weight on the narrow front wheels with smaller tires (not over a 6:50 X 16" to fit inside the picker) they do not like any mud and will completely fill the entire front end of tractor-picker with mud that is a bear to clean out. When it starts to build up mud get out of the field. The pulltype you can drag thru the mud if you have a big enough tractor.

a 325 is a 30" picker, sure it isn't a 324? a mtd. picker has it's advantages and disadvantages as others have mentioned, the 560 part is what made my stomach turn over!

I would go with the pull type picker. We had a 2 row mounted we put on a SM. Seems it took most of a day to do it. Or depending on how much corn you have find a 1 row and you wont have trouble with spacing.

One advantage of a pull type is the mounted pickers had a habit if catching on fire.Never saw a pull type burn up.
Disadvantage is with the pull type, you will be knocking down a LOT of corn. I would still go with the mounted if you have wide rows.

Thanks for the info. We currently pick 30" rows, 40-45 acres. Most of our fields are long strips, so opening up isnt too bad. But the square fields are a pain. And yes, it is a picker tractor combo, for $4000, the same price as a good 2 row with a 12 roll husking bed. We would have to switch to wider rows, which I'm not sure i want to do.

There are alot of pickers out there for $1500 or less for a 2 row narrow with a 12 roll husking bed. I got a MM 350 2/30 and 12 row bed for $750 last year that shined all over. There are alot of good pickers out there you just got to beat the bushes and find them. Bandit

You might want to look at Ebay there is a JD 300 corn picker with a 343 head on it for about the same price as the mounted picker you are looking at. Not mine thought you might like to look at it. Bandit
