Tie rod hydraulic cylinders vs conventional?

I'm looking at a couple of tractor related (power steering and a tow behind backhoe) projects and need some cylinders. Our local store for that sort of thing (Princess Auto) give the choice of utility cylinders (conventional) or implement cylinders (tie-rod style). The implement style are significantly cheaper. Other than the reduced max pressure (2500 vs 3000 psi) are there any other significant disadvantages to the tie-rod style? Thanks, Sam

I like the tie-rod cylinders because you can rotate the heads or even replace the heads for a different style mount. They can also be shortened if necessary. And they don't require special tools to take them apart.

But, on the whole, price usually determines what I buy except when doing modifications on pre-60's IH product. I stay with tie-rod to match existing IH engineering. In fact, I try to use old IH cylinders.

You should know the pressure of your system
before purchasing accessories !
I "think" that most belt driven power steering
pumps are in the 1500 PSI range.
