rear tractor tires?? Radial or not?

Hey folks,
any advantage of radial over bias ply in diagonal tread tires (12.4x28)?
Think I'm gonna buy myself a set of tires for Christmas and am wondering if radials would be worth the extra 150 bucks for the pair.

Thanks, Dave

they say they save fuel when plowing , there not any
help for tractor pulling might not be as good.

I'll just tell you this. I had a John Deere 4040 with 18.4x38 bias on it. I had to send it in to the shop for transmission work right in the middle of spring work about 20 years ago. I rented another 4040 from the dealer and that one had 18.4x38 radials. There weren't any front weights on the one that I rented, but I hooked on to my plow and took it out. Mine had been breaking traction plowing up hill. I'd have to get on the brake, the front end, even weighted would come up,it was a nightmare. The one with the radials and no weights would hold traction right up over the hill,so no riding the brakes,no spinouts,so no wheel stands. I was sold on radials right there.

Yea, even if I get a bigger one later on. It just fits everywhere. Dug out my front loader frame today and have it set up and sprayed with oven cleaner so Ican pressure wash it tomorrow and put it inside ready to splash some paint on.

This time of year until next summer I'll always be dealing with a mud "skin" (?) about everywhere I go. And the little escapade with the baler pushing me down the hill was because my tires started sliding.
The radials are advertised as tubeless, running a tube in them won't effect anything will it?

Thanks, Dave

Depends on what you are going to use the tractor for. Radials have the ability to be run at a lower air pressure so you have 40% more tire on the ground. That is if you run them at lower pressure, if you run them at full pressure then act like bias tires and wasted your money. If you load them with any fluids then they act like bias tires and you wasted you money. If you carry a heavy load on the rear tires then you have to inflate the tires to carry the load and once again you wasted you money. Firestone says that a tractor needs 120 hp minimum to justify radial tires. I don't know what your tractor is but the size you listed makes me doubt it is that big. I would guess that you really won't get enough advantage to get the radials. But what do I know, i just sell them eveyday.

It's a whopping 26HP.

Just save the money then?
