work is very slow so I went to pa to work on this old shed that sits way in the corner of our property. The neighbor who is near 80 said when she was young there was an abondoned homestead there,. All that is left there now is this old shed . Some of the slate shingles came of so I did some triming of the tree next to the shed, replaced some wood and put slate back on,. I found the slate at a garage sale along with the screws and nails to do all the repairs. Some of the pictures were taken from up on the roof.

Nice pictures. What county is this? Looks like a lot of places in Pa; slopes, contour strips, and a pond near the buildings.

Most would think slate would be cost prohibitive for a shed roof. Can I assume you live somewhere near where so much of the Pennsylvania roof slate comes from?
Love all your pictures!!

Slate will last for hundreds of years, there are cathedrals in Europe that have 500 year old slate roofs. Our farmhouse is slate and its 120 years old... hail is the only enemy to slate. That must have been some homestead with slate roof buildings. I have seen slate for sale at garage sales and when I do I buy spares. Its very expensive to hire a slate man to make repairs,I have done some myself. Good job you did!

originally , almost every barn and house in the area had slate roofs , When they get old and disrepair a lot of times people take the slate off and put sheet metal. We did that with most of our buildings and the barn in the picture, which is my neighbors was done that way also. I didnt want to spend too much money on this old shed ,just keep it from falling down,

Beautiful countryside; especially this time of year.

Looks like a cedar tree there next to the old shed.

Thanks for sharing your photos with us.

Looks like you had a perfect fall day. Glad to see an old building being saved.

P.S. - I got most of the red salsa. James wasn"t happy. Guess I need to learn to make salsa.
