Potato Harvest

I recently had surgery for lung cancer and it has laid me up some. The neighbors all got together yesterday and picked my potatoes 17 folks turned out... even my aunt who turned 100 this year! I am indeed fortunate to have such friends and feel indebted to all.
We all enjoyed the mild day and had pizza and Pepsi afterward.

I know what you are talking about . I am recovering from a knee replacement and get a few calls every day from folks to see if they can help with any chores . Had a elderly neighbor lady call yesterday to be sure I could get wood in the stove while my wife is at work , I can handle the stove but that sure was a good apple pie she droped off . You always get payed for your good deeds !

Cal - do you have any pics of the back side of that operation? I'd like to see what the tractor is pulling.

Thanks,
Paul

Here is a picture of an antique potato digger. I believe that is what they are using. It digs under the potato plant with the spade shaped front blade. Then the dirt and potatoes go up the cross wires. The idler sprockets are eccentric so they shake the dirt out and then the potatoes drop back on the top of the ground.
