Alternative uses for large rope?

I have a supply of very large (2-4" diameter) rope and I'm trying to
come up with some creative uses for it as it seems a shame to just
dispose of it. It's just too large for tow rope behind my tractors and
I can't figure out any way of using it to build a shed ;( So all creative
suggestions welcome. Thanks, Sam

Spiral it into walls spiking each loop to the lower one to form walls for your shed?
Bumpers for trucks?
Fuel for a woodstove???

Can you explain your idea of building a wall? I had though about using rebar (or similar) spaced every foot and weaving a wall but it doesn't have a lot of strength in my mind. Some of the rope is man made materials and wouldn't burn nicely. Thanks, Sam

P.S. - I don't have anywhere near that many trucks, would probably need 500 to make use of all the rope!

Most people that have boats have money......So.....get some teak or cedar posts and wrap the rope around the posts and sell them for big bucks. (its worth a try)

Ever seen those cans of peanuts that when you open, a spring loaded something or other pops out and scares you pretty good? Well, a 5 gallon bucket with a lid, a stiff spring, and a few good feet and...spring loaded python.

Of course, if it causes someone to die of a heart attack, well, maybe its not such a good idea afterall. You can use it if you want to, just leave my name out of it though, ok?

Mark

Put it on ebay or Craigslist, somebody will want it. That large of a rope is very expensive, probably $5 a foot or more if one would go to buy it.

I come from a very small family and I don't think there are enough of us to even hold the rope off the ground - let alone take it anywhere! Sam

I'm liking the python idea, the only problem I see is going to be getting the thing compressed in the can. I would think a fair sized spring would be necessary. Thanks, Sam

It was originally used for marine towing. I'm emptying an old shed and there are at least four large coils of it. Age unknown and therefore structurally questionable. I don't think it's bad but I just wouldn't trust it totally. Sam

i was born and raised om Galveston Island...seen alot of line like that used for side rails on porches and decks...also to mark off driveways...or hang onto it incase you find a ship in one of them big sheds.

If I remember from my Navy days correctly
Rope in those sizes are measured by circumference not diameter. So your ropes would be 6" and 12" respectively.
I would put them on ebay for so much a foot.
I can imagine that bars and resturaunts with a sailing, mining or industrial motif might buy it.
Make sure you mention it is old and therefore not reliable for use in rigging or mooring. Just to CYA.
Where are you located? I might be interested in some for decorating my front porch.
email is open.

are you suggesting to stand in the smoke with all that Hemp burning ???? LOL

I agree with others to use it for decoration as telephone size posts and run it down yer driveway, or sell to an old sea captain on E bay or Creigslist.

Lay the rope in a circle the shape of the building. Then lay another coil on top of the first one and spike it to the lower coil. Lay another coil on top of that etc, etc.
I kind of liked the idea of weaving it around rebar as well.
Sure have never seen a structure built this way but I have seen baskets made like this.
Figure it is just a matter of scale!
A door or window might be tricky....

Those things make GREAT tow ropes behind tractors. They can give a bit where a chain can't - lets you get some momentum before you actually start pulling. (especailly nice when in snow/ice) I have the 2" with large hooks on either end, about 15' long. Works great.

I f you lived Close I would Love to get Serveral feet to make a oil siphoning filter for waste oil ..soak entire rope for 2 days then drape over one end in a barrel of wasteold oil , the other end in a bucket lower than the drum ,,in a week you will haveclean oilsuitable for hydraulic fluid ...Bet You got a couple hundred Feet ,,deck hand on the OHIO river gave Me 50 ft or so once ,,Rope was deemed rotten by the barge folx ,. But WE Could pull nearly anything a log chain would pull ,, Just make serveral wraps before knotting or else you will need a chopaxe to disconnect ..

Once it gets level the oil will drip.
Has to be encased in plastic pipe which would also keep the dust out.
Marine braided rope is best.

I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, so quite a way from most of you. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll get some picture once I get it dragged home. Thanks again, Sam

1. Build foot bridges over ravines in combination with smaller rope.
2. Use sections as a wick in a large metal barrel for burning waste fluids-like stale diesel fuel, oil, etc. Don't know if Environmentally Okay.
3. Send it to me for shipping charges
