Made a call to a customer interested in a micro hydro turbine. He ownes the property that this old mill dam sets on. I am always in awe when I see these sits. I wonder how they quaried the limestone, how they transported it , lifted and placed it. I wish I could go back to that time and could see this mill dam being built and in operation grinding feed or sawing lumber which ever it did.

Now that is awesome. How old do you think it is? And it was done without skidsteers, modern hydraulic tools, cranes etc etc etc. Darn that is a nice piece of history. If I could choose...I would have been there with those guys back in those good, pure days. Maybe in a different location..but those days were what made us the best. THESE days will make us...?????? NICE PICS

Great site and photos- Keep them coming!!!!!
One of the great things about a site like that is that it really makes one think about our history and how they did things.

The old timers Were AWesome .. yes it would be neat to visit those times to see how it was done and Evenlend a hand ,, However , After One day 200 yrs ago , I would Be starving and Plumb WORN OUT , and probably be suffering From Humiliation from not being able to hold up my End , I would be anxious to Came back to modern civilazation , and once back i would Hate myself For not being Able to make the Grade ,, But i suppose that is nothing compareed to the Guilt Some Developers SHOULD FEEL when They Destroy such a dam OR ,, An old FARM stead and Barn That served many Generations in the name of the ALMIGHTY $ , Certainly Am warmed by the Possibility of this Dam making Energy in Some way in the future ,,

And got your butt shot off, belongings scattered, and your labor force set free

Ther are many old dams in this part of Maine. One near me is just hand piled stone.A lot of it is still standing.Theres a stone mill building in Freedom Maine.I bought lumber from a water powered mill about 20 years ago.Ihat mill is out of use now.You can find a stone dam in every town around here.Look for a book,John Goffes Mill. The Foxfire books have info on water power.

Most likely anybody at the job site was working, I past construction sites on the road all the time lately, and it appears to be 3-4 people overseeing the one actually working. assistant inspector, head
inspector, senior .......... Men where men and so were women.

Beautiful stonework!! I have always appreciated good stonewalls and even more so since I built (with the help of my B.I.L.) a 40" retaining wall in front of my house about 12 years ago.
Assuming that dam is in NYS, where exactly is it?
I really enjoy all your pictures!
