hey jay
glad to see you back on yt mag - hope your summer was good...couldn't beat the weather around here...best hay season in recent memory.
i figured i'd throw this question in your direction - my father in law is looking to get himself a tractor - something small - 20-30 hp, 4wd, with a loader - he has some property in cherry valley that he would use it on and he lives on teh sacandaga and is tired of using his 4 wheeler like a tractor in the woods...didn't know if you had seen anything for sale...craigslist has been kinda dry
anyway, hope all is well, glad to see you back on
just fired up my outdoor wood furnace today...figures weather would be in the 70's tomorrow
oh well it'll get cold soon enough
steve

Hey Steve, how you doing? No I cant help you as I havet anything of mine like that for sale. But I travell all around Latham, Colonie, Rotterdam ect. So if I see something like that I will let you know. Haying was finally good for me until September when the gear box went on the NH489 haybine. Jack Millers rebuilt it for me. Works good now. Also got a new/used NH56 hay rake. I do have a new idea rake for sale and a IH 37 small square baler for sale. If you know anyone who wants one. Iv seen Barry M bringing hay to Highcliff, pulling double wagons with his JD 4020 all summer.. lol. Glad to here from you. J

thanks...if you do see one reasonably priced, let me know...
dave mohr (moore) - owns the property on the left as you are going from highcliff towards peck rd. just after you go accross mont. co. line - he might be interested in the rake baler combo...he spent the summer messing around with an old NH (i want to say a 68...but possibly older than that) and a dump rake - finally made some real dark mulch at the end of the summer...
we had a real successful summer with hay...started with 3 running tractors, 2 balers, 2 haybines...and ended the summer with all three still in action - had summers where we limped accross the finish.
those 489 gearboxes seem to like to blow up...i know barry went through 2 or 3 of them on one of his haybines...we have always been happy with the setup of the 479 so when we upgraded to a 2nd, newer, haybine we looked till we found a decent 488, which has teh same gearbox setup as the 479...
started using a new to us NH 311 baler this year that has been the nuts...
couple that with getting married, getting my first nephew and going to hawaii...it was a real good summer.
stay warm and dry

Congrats on the wedding! And thanks for the info on the gearbox on the 489 vs the 479-488. My friend has a NH492, how are they?? Darn confusing the different models. I thought you were asking me if I had a tractor for sale, I mis read your post, sorry,, but will keep an eye out for you. You would think with this economy you could find something reasonable?? I go to Tiffanys every so often and get that, I think its tractor house magazine and cant believe the prices for used equipment, shocking. Catch you later. J
