The other day Isaw a nice post about a daughters first car, and being our daughter is 17 and is learning on her permit I thought I would post also. She has been learning with this 95 geo tracker, which was given to her by a good friend of my wife. It only has 64000 miles on it. We put new tires on it. She is also learning with my wifes chevy colorado 4x4 pickup. I have been driving the tracker alot and saving gas money instead of driving my truck, We have decided to let my daughter drive the colorado and my wife drive my truck because she has a short commute, and we can switch if I need the truck. The reason is the tracker has no air bags and is very small for a new driver.

We had a tracker back in the 90's, really liked it, but I think you're smart to keep your daughter in a better protected vehicle.

I forgot to post the pictures!!

My son and step daughter learned on a 1998 Suzuki
sidekick (Same thing)I liked the part it was nice and slow, never a problem I still drive it in the woods bullet proof.

Our daughter learned to drive on a full sized Chevy Blazer. Her first car was an '83 Olds 88 diesel two door.

Gotta Tell this One on SIS , Her 2nd car was nice tame 64RAMBLER Rebel ,, BUT, Before that car back about 1965 Dad Told her to Drive the 58 DESOTO back an forth to Work . told her ." USE YOUR HEAD AND DONt LET THAT CAR TAKE OFF WITH YOU !", since he just got Mom a new Car,. We found Out years Later , Her Boy friend Used to Win $$racing His Pals in that car .. He Told Me That Car WOULD FLY! .. She Probably Run out of Gas 5 times before She Learned her Lesson that the Although Powerful that 392 hemi liked to be fed,, Gas was a Quarter, and she was making $ at CATERPILLAR 6 per hour . There Was Motorcycle Cop in NA that liked to stop her Because HE was SWEET on Her , Sillly things like Not a complete Stop or one of the 8 tailites on the Twin fins was not Lit. One nite Dad was coming thru town in the DESOTO and Got stopped by the SAME GOOFY cop ,,, Dad said that cop "Stopped GRINN'IN' was Gaffing allovwer Himmself When he realized Sis was not driving ... POP Told HIM , "If Ya want to keep YOUR JOB" not To Stop SIS AnyMore Because she is Getting Married SOON!. Sis got a little over confident in the tracking Ability of that DESOTO and plowed it into a SNOW BANK on a bad curve not far from home ,It was buried So deep we scarcly Could Find the Car ,,Dad Said "WHat The HALE !Was Ya Going 60 around that curve?"

Just make sure she gets good at drive'n a manual before she get too comfortable with an auto. I have taught several kids in their early teens to drive with a clutch, all were much easier than teach'n my wife after 10 years of drive'n a auto.

Find her an ex police car they are well built big heavy four doors not the best fuel economy but if she has an accident something big and heavy would be safer

I'll catch he11, but why do you value the life of your wife, kid or yourself for that matter less than the value of saving a few bucks on mileage? Get rid of the Geo before it becomes a grease spot on the road. I've seen the aftermath of little tin can cars vs anything bigger and it isn't pretty.

Son started out with an S-10 Blazer and daughter started out with a 92' Eldorado. Favorite (only) son has wadded up 2 and dented one so far. Daughter has dented 2. And they both are at a loss as to why insurance for young drivers in so expensive. Duhhhh.

Good luck with your daughter driving. My boss has a 21 year old daughter and she has been in 3 accidents. Not real serious but.........real careless.

My sister (when she was 16) got in a small smashup cause she wasnt paying attention.
Teenage drivers need better instruction and more time with experienced drivers. I think that now the law (at least in Michigan) only allows 2 kids maximum in a car (with teen driver) and a teen cant be on the road after 11:30pm.

Please advise your daughter to be very aware of and to obey the speed limits where ever she drives.I spend a lot of time on the freeways and about 90% of the cars that pass me going over the speed limit are driven by young ladys. It will save you tons on your insurance also.

Did the tracker have a history of rollovers? I've seen a few flip and with a soft top that could be dangerous.
