transmission overdrive switch

could someone tell me exactly what is the transmission overdrive switch does on a 2010 chevy gasser pickup.i am looking at them on line and some have it and some dont whats the difference thanks

Thats actually a "tow/haul" mode switch. When tow/haul is selected, the shifts will be firmer and shift points will be raised somewhat.

thanks brian i thought all chevy trucks had that i see a 2500 with it and a 3500 without it why would that be being its a heavier duty truck and all

It messes with the powertrain 'puter's mind to firm up shifts and change shift points.

OD still operates in trailer mode if conditions permit.

1500 and 2500 have it with the trailer package...3500 does not have it because the Allison transmission is a whole different animal

The tow/haul mode lets overdrive work,like Buickanddeere says.It just changes the shift patterns so your motor dont lug

I have a Chev with a Tow/Hual button it changes shift paterns but O/D still works. The Ford has an O/D lockout that is it's only function as far as I can tell.
