Lately i have gotten some interesting phone and answering mesages. 1. This phone does not accept calls from telemarketers push one to continue. 2. This phone does not accept private numbers enter your number to continue. 3. This number does not accept calls from your. area/trunk/server etc. 4. Does not aceppt automated calls push 1 to continue. I have heard of many more but what kind of service is this stuff and how do you get it???

Best one I heard was several years ago, I tried to call a young gal about business matters.

Her answering machine message was, "I've made some changes in my life lately, and if I don't return your call it means you're one of the changes".

I get very confused any more how to dial long distance phone numbers. With cell in the mix, some need the '1' in front, some don't even want the area code but are not a normal 'local' exchange....

When I dial without the '1' I will get a voice telling me I need to dial the '1' first.

Well now, if they know I need to dial it, and it is the only option, why make me redial - just have your little computer voice add the '1' for me when needed? Shouldn't be that hard!

Good one, Goose!

One of my neighbors has an answering machine that sez, "Yes, I know that the cows are out. . . If you have another message, speak up."

And his cows rarely get out, but he IS a joker.

If this is a regular recorder the length of the greeting is bounded only by the amount of memory of your recorder. Pressing the number(s)doesn't do anything.
If you want to acually redirct the call by pressing a number then you need a 'call director' to send the call to another another line which requires a small (or large) office phone system or a PBX.
Lastly, The phone company can provide some call blocking services for a fee. The problem is they can't slectively indentify the call type.

My favorite was mother of two very athletic daughters, saying, "It's softball season- you know, One, Two, Three strikes your out? Well, we're out, so please leave a message."

There was also one you could download from the internet- It had instructions that became increasingly hard to keep up with, then slowly became an obvious joke (turn three times in place, and finish by facing north. then, . . .).

Sam your answer is the only one that had any technical information. It must be a phone company service or some of the equipment you spoke of. Seems it would put any end to nusiance calls.

irritating. That's what it is. If you are not man enough to screen your own calls I don't need to talk to you that bad. I just hang up. You can call me if you want something.
