distributor rotor

we are having a problem with the rotor in a 9n catching on the cap posts and cracking? any ideas

Distributor bushing totally gone, wrong cap, Wrong Rotor, misaligned cap.
Check them all. My money is on the bushing. Jim

First off where you getting the parts from?? If cheap TSC type parts that could be your problem and China parts never fit correctly. You need parts like blue streak or B/W. Now if using good parts than as Jim says

Yep...all of the above.

On my old AC-B, every year I go after the contacts in the cap and on the rotor of the mag using one of those old ink pen/typing erasers that looked like a green pencil with a minorly abrasive white eraser down the middle instead of lead. They don't make those erasers anymore, and I doubt the cap or rotor either. One day, I'm going to be out of luck.

want for Wico, or Fairbanks-Morse magnetos for
Allis Chalmers B.
Many sold under electrical parts on this site !

Better check the bushing where the the front axel pivots. Some times they get worn so bad that they crack the coil towers. HTH John
