Hey folks, finally guessed the right time to spray these things. They always seemed to multiply when I sprayed before. Sprayed Saturday and they were wilting Senday. Any idea how long I should wait before mowing?

Thanks, Dave

If you sprayed them with roundup I wouldn't mow them at all, or
not for a while. As I understand it the spray kills the roots by
moving down the stem, so if you mow it it sort of undoes the
spraying and lets it come back. I may be all wrong, but I think that
is how it works.

Zach's right, better wait a while. I just read an article that told about the danger of mixing herbicides and how it can reduce the effectiveness. One combination mentioned was mixing Roundup with a quick acting burn down herbicide. Roundup acts slowly while it translocates to the roots and the quick acting herbicide that's mixed with it might kill the top of the plant before the roundup can make it's way to the roots. Mowing the plants might do the same thing if you are using Roundup. For 2-4D a couple of days wait is all it takes.Jim

The extreme example of translocation of Roundup is blackberries- A little old lady told me how she got rid of them, in late summer or early fall: A little jar of straight Roundup in one hand, a hand clipper in the other. Cut a cane, dip the end in Roundup, move on to the next. Spend the winter thinking what a waste of time that was, because you can's see any difference in the canes. Come spring, the new growth simply doesn't appear, and you're left with a bunch of dead canes. I tried it, and it really works.

Yes been there done that. Blackberries (Brambles) soon succumb to a strong solution , or even neat, Roundup.
