have no idea what it is, the pond is in front of our house. Iv know this pond all my life 56 years,one morning I looked out the window to see this. we had a mid winter thaw for two days and this was the result, pond hasn't done it since. didn't call the experts didn't want them out here pokeing round.

Sorry you"re all wrong... it was the Essex tri-directional performing a few touch and go"s.

You see that ring in from the down thrusters. The smaller melted spots are from where the co-pilot spit his "chaw". They"re a wild bunch. Be careful.

Usually that is from a large piece of ice being spun by flowing water. The ice will not freeze along the edges due to movement at the right temperatures. It will create an almost perfectly round piece of ice. Usually this is seen in slow streams or resevoirs. Look on Youtube, there are some videos of this phenomenom. Although with the tree branches frozen in the middle it's hard to say if the ice would rotate. It wouldn't heave, they water underneath isn't going to be affected by frost.
