I hear they are better than the 6.0 but does that really mean anything!!! Im liking the new 6.7 Cummins with the exhuast brake. Those are sweet. Ofcourse it hard to go wrong with Duramax.

From what I have heard it was better than the 6.0 but Ford sure didn't keep that engine model long and have all ready shelved the 6.4 for a totally re-designed new one.

Our 08 spent 5 weeks at the dealer because the oil pump went on it. They said they had a hard time getting one. This truck is also on its 3rd radiator. Funny thing is we bought this truck to replace our POS 6.0. But when they are both broke we fire up old the old 7.3 That truck has never let us down.

That is true a good friend of mine worked on that Diesel engine program. The Warranty on the Navistar diesel is sickening. Hundreds of millions of dollars a year in warranty costs. (no kidding)

No supposedly about it, the 6.7 is a Ford designed and built engine. Navistar has been fired. Navistar is sueing Ford for developing the new engine before the contract was up.
When I went to the 6.7 diesel hands on, they say the 6.7 is the most tested engine Ford has ever produced. I don't like the antiquated vacuum controls they put on it, but so far they have been trouble free. The dealer I work for has sold quite a few and I have only seen them back for regular maintenance. The 6.0 is trouble spread out, the 6.4 is trouble concentrated. It costs about $8K for an injection pump and injectors when they go out of warranty. About $2500 for EGR and Oil coolers on a 6.0. I can have a cab in the air to change the injection pump and injectors in about an hour and a half if that tells you how often I work on 6.4's.
What I tell people I know is you need your head examined if you are planning on buying a 6.0 or 6.4 Ford diesel.

So, what exactly is it about Navistars warranty that is sickening? Better than you can get on the Ford gassers! Its not Navistars fault Ford screwed the engine up!

Brian is the 6.7 the new one that is backwards from anything we have ever seen. The exaust comes out the middle of the V where the intake has always been..? Looks like thay have really done a lot of things diffrent on this engine..

I have an '08 6.4, and I've been very happy with it, moreso since I got rid of the government mandated exhaust crap. Power, great milage, and real quiet. I regularly pulled 30,000+ with it, till I got my little Freightliner done. The Ford has done everything I asked of it.

I've owned both and that old 7.3 sure is a clunker next to a 6.4.

And, the boys in at the Ford garage tell me that the new Ford 6.7(?) will outpull the 6.4.

If so, that's gotta be some outfit 'cause I just can't see anything with more guts than a 6.4.

Not to mention that they ride far, far better than any hi-end, hi-dollar car out there. :>)

Yes it is. Having the turbo closer to the exhaust ports is supposed to reduce lag time. There are actually 2 versions of the 6.7. The Dual boost that is used in F250 and F350, and the single boost that is only rated at 300 hp for the F450 and up. The dual boost engine is not available in the larger trucks.
The 6.4 would be better if Navistar had chosen an injection pump that was really up to the challenge of the fuel pressures they run. I would say to those guys with 6.4 engines to change the fuel filters every oil change and NEVER run them below 1/4 tank of fuel. Be sure to check the fuel cooling system coolant level from time to time too. If you see what looks like metal powder/flakes in the bottom of the secondary fuel filter housing, start saving your money. There's likely to be an injection pump and 8 injectors in your future.

FOR the life of me I cannot imagine why Ford wouldnt build a lower RPM, heavy duty 6 cyl that would out torque any V8 medium duty diesel engine. Some of their most successful and long lasting engines were inline 6. They have also saw the success of the Cummins in Dodge. they know what works and lasts, why would they continue this R&D money pit trying to find some new super motor....the 6.0 was bad enough...now what? this proves to me that they are marketing to the performance crowd with more money than sense, not the guy that has work to do, crap to haul/move with limited budget and plenty of common sense.

Yeah but I wouldnt buy one for in the first two years that they build them. I would wait till they got the bugs out.

I would run from the newer Ford diesels. The 6.0 is total junk and the 6.4 is not much better. My brother works for a construction company that gets new Ford trucks every year for the job foremans. They get twenty at a time. The year the 6.0 came out they had to rent trucks to have trucks for their crews to use. The 6.4 where a little better but not much.
This last year they got all gas trucks. Said that they could not stand the lost use time. They are going to try the new Ford this next year. Already told Ford that if they have any serious problems they are switching to Dodges with the Cummins.
