been looking at a 16 ft toy hauler bath, kit area, 2 bunks fold up on sides, ramp door brakes ,with 2 3500lb 4 bolt axels ,would it be better to add leafs or swap out for 5000 axels , tractor itself is about 33, JD BR no weights ,spoked f&r. and what would 2 new 5's run.

Buy a 16 ft tandem axle, flat bed, car trailer and save your self the work. Don"t think the trailer you are looking at has the structual strength on the tail that you need.

NOT A GOOD IDEA!!!!!! Being based on a rv frame IT IS NOT RATED FOR THE WEIGHT OF THE TRACTOR, NOR WILL IT EVER BE!!! I have hauled rvs for a living from the manufacturs and I have hauled plenty of them back with bent frames buy over loading the rear overhang. You have the right idea with the toy hauler for shows but a rv WILL NOT WORK. I suggest looking at a 3-4 horse trailer with a living quarter. Those are built to take the weight of 3-4 horses at roughly 1500 each. The axles are set farther back on a horse trailer and will handle the tractor a lot better. And your wife won't want to kill you when or if you get to where your going. 4 star, nnalert, exiss all make nice trailers and can be bought used at a better price and the dealer or manufactur will retro for you. There is a freind of mine that bought a BIG enclosed trailer and hauls his tractors get's to the show and unloads and he set's up camp in the trailer. He has a gravity fed shower with one of those solar bags on the out side he hangs, and a murphy style bed that folds down. And he hauls a Farmall H,A,BN all in the same load. Really cool set up. I hope this helps.

Super trucker is right, the toy hauler is not heavy enough for a BR- they're built for a Harley, or a snowmobile, or 4 wheeler, etc. Heavier axles don't do anything for the frame of the trailer, and when you hit a medium pothole and the frame pretzels, you'll be left with a very bad taste in your mouth.

But a decent used 3 or 4 horse living quarters trailer will run you 15 large, or so, and you would be much happier with a $5,000 pickup camper and a $2,500 car trailer. Been there, done that for 35 years or so, wife hauling horses, me hauling machinery, just a much more flexible outfit.

thanks all . have a 16 open car type now . works fine . just after rain / mist on last haul, it took wife three days to get cleaned.been hearing it since. would a enclosed with 5 or 7 axle work?

Friday I saw a Deckover flatbed with dovetail with a pickup camper strapped down in front with a 69 Nova drag car strapped down on the rear with a 4 wheeler in between, heading to the local drag strip. A true multipurpose vehicle.
Put an old camper trai1er on instead and have something a little larger.

I have a Work and Play it and the campmaster both are toyhaulers but they are built out of enclosed car haulers, they are made to carry the weight.
